Country singer Randy Travis has been admitted to a Texas hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to his public relations firm.
The six-time Grammy winner is suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy.
"Cardiomyopathy is the term for any disease of the heart muscle that interferes with the hearts ability to pump blood with sufficient force," according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. Travis' condition, which is viral, was caused by an infection in the heart.
Travis, 54, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday.
The illness is a continuation of a tough run for the "Three Wooden Crosses" singer after a handful of recent high-profile appearances, including a performance during the Country Music Association Festival's nightly concert series.
Travis had also performed at the memorial service for slain ex-Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in February.
Travis pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in January following his arrest last year when he was found naked after crashing his Pontiac Trans Am.
Travis was sentenced to two years of probation, fined $2000 and given a 180-day suspended jail sentence. He was required to spend at least 30 days at an alcohol treatment facility and complete 100 hours of community service.
In August 2012, he was cited after a dustup at a church in the parking lot of Prestonwood Baptist Church.
In November, Travis said through his attorney that he had put together a personal program to get sober. He had also returned to the recording studio.
Bummer,Hail Marys
Randy Travis is a talented man who has been battling personal demons for several years. I’m praying for him.
Dang! Too bad...
Prayers up. I saw him in the 1980s, opening for George Jones. This is too much.
There, but for the $millions and talent, go I.
Ah yes the “Demon” word....are uncontrollable health problems demons?
What would us poor, benighted FReepers ever do, without the atheist word police keeping us in line, lol?
What a terrible thing. God bless him.
God bless him. I will be praying for him.
I believe they are .... we all have our angels and demons... praying that Randy Travis pulls through.
My prayers go out to him. I read this thing can take as long as 10 years to beat and it’s what killed singer Andy Gibb, viral infection of the heart.
I thought he committed suicide.
i use-tah watch this bible thumping woman at a credit union I worked at stuff her hand bag with pens, paper and all kinds of crap, aka steal, and at the same time talk of other peoples “Demons”.IMOP she is a hypocriticalPOS.
Anyway, I'm surprised to hear he is only 54. I figured he'd be older than that by now. Way to young to be having these sort of problems. Especially when you have country singers who still have careers in their 70s, like Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels and that one guy with the funny hat.
Well I hope Randy Travis gets better and puts out another album or two.
So me por ole maw that died of cancer @97 yo died of a demom......
We all feel it was a disease, but we were not looking for excuses, dont cha know.
Listen to the song and say a prayer for the singer!
No need to comment to such stupidity....sorry if you don’t have the discernment to know the difference between a physical disease and demons.
One doesn’t have to be religious to understand what “battling personal demons” in post #3 means. Just intelligent.
No need to comment to such stupidity
You just did.
Dont be sorry
