One weekday morning in April 2004, a Libyan girl named Soraya was accorded one of her nations highest honors: Col. Moammar Khadafy was visiting her school, and Soraya alone had been chosen to present him with a bouquet.
You cant imagine the excitement, she recalled. To see Khadafy in person . . . His face had been known to me since I was born. Soraya was ushered into a makeshift dressing room, where she changed into traditional garb for the Libyan woman: red pants and tunic, small hat.
My heart was beating a hundred miles a minute, Soraya said. She was 15 years old, a good Muslim girl who had never had a sip of alcohol, a drag from a cigarette or kissed a boy. It all happened very fast. I held out the bouquet, then took his free hand in mine and kissed it as I bowed down . . . I felt like I was on a cloud. Then he patted her head.
In that one moment, Khadafy had indeed marked Soraya as special. And soon she would disappear completely.
What happened to Soraya is recounted in Annick Cojeans staggering new book, Gaddafis Harem: The Story of a Young Woman and the Abuses of Power in Libya (Grove Press). In the aftermath of the 2011 revolution and killing of Khadafy by a rebel militia, Soraya spent days recounting her ordeal to French journalist Cojean.
I will never forget what it felt like to watch her relive certain crucial moments of her life, Cojean writes, the horror of which hasnt left her.
The day after Sorayas presentation to Khadafy, three members of his famed all-female militia came looking for her.

And, by the way I’m not trying to lure you into some kind of trap, because if you haven’t guessed already, I largely agree with what you said.
I have found that, in my life, this is a constant source of internal conflict for me, and I am always reflecting on it, and re-analyzing it, to try to find the path that is the correct one for me.
It is interesting, that in my political life I have come to the point where I can no longer support “moderate” conservatives, because I too have reached the point where I feel that compromising with evil is enabling evil.
It is a constant source of introspection for me to determine what the most consistent path is that I can follow that is in harmony with my personal actions in the real world.
While I’m far from perfect, I try to live up to the stuff I preach as much as I can.
I ditched cable/dish over a decade ago as I refuse to fund the very propaganda that is killing America. Likewise I avoid movies And have not bought a DVD coming out of Hollywood in years. Before my current health issues sidelined me from more active participation, I was highly involved in landuse issues and so upset the powers that be that Time Magazine did a hit piece about my part in it (naming me and doing their liberal best to mock us. April 26, 1999 (had to check, thought it was 98) with Star Wars Phantom Menace cover. Earth Day issue, Page 61.
I buy used whenever I can’t buy from a business I believe in, unless there is simply no option to be found.
Working at a newspaper as a reporter and ed for many years, I did my best to edit the propaganda out of wire stories and write factual articles of my own where appropriate.
I think we all have to do ‘something’. The problem is that most do ‘nothing’ but bitch. We can’t all be supermen and live politically perfect lives free of contradictions. Human nature and society make that impossible. But we CANNOT keep compromising the big issues and feeding our own demise.
I’ve been thinking the same thing. Parents have too much to do to pay attention to what is going on it seems and only do so when it becomes a problem where they need to sue someone or a governmental entity for harm done.
Allowing those with no morals or ethics much less religion to teach and lead children is like driving them off a cliff. Sad thing is it hardly ever happens to the elitist children since they are protected for the most part.
Fair enough. LOL, I have you beat, though...I have never had cable, ever, and haven’t watched television or read any papers for around 15 years (beyond walking by and looking)
Too bad more haven’t. A less propagandized America would be a fine place to be. And for people that think that local papers and TV stations are immune from being Goebbels on a smaller scale, I have news for them.
They even lie about the temperature so as to not to hurt tourism...seriously.
Islam is satanic
more than meets the eye???
For me, I had known this for years, but the real kicker for me came in 2007 when I went to The Gathering of Eagles down in Washington DC. I went back to trooprally’s house with a bunch of the DC chapter of free Republic members, and we watched the news. It bore no resemblance to reality. For me, that was the first time I had actually seen that type of thing with my very own eyes.
I already believed that they were completely corrupt and untrustworthy That just put a nail in the coffin for me.
Khadafy raped both men and women from the article.
HE was a sick SOB,and the world is a better place for him being gone.
But what he did, and his sexual appetites, are not strange in the Islamic world, which still lives in the seventh century.
Obummer strikes me as the boy/man loving type.
Makes one wonder just what was he doing on the night of 9/11/12.
Down Low
Karma struck that boy dead if the stories are true about his captors sodomizing him with sharp utensils. I’m trying to work up sympathy for him...really. But I can’t seem to find any.
Well the last video I saw of Ghadaffi some guy was stuffing stick up his rectum so what goes around comes around.
Yes, he got the Ambassador Stevens special, which is an Islamic staple it seems.
I have not been able to find one contribution to society made by Islam in 1400 years.
They perfected forcible sodomy and mutilation of females—in their world, maybe that is a contribution.
Well Islam made otherwise peaceful people hate them and think some pretty vile thoughts about what could be an appropriate use of nuclear weapons. So there’s that...
Makes me really wonder how Slick Willie would have turned out if he had reared from a third world country.
To be honest, IMO, anyone that thinks every world leader isn’t doing something a whole lot like this is lying to themselves. Perhaps not with the muslim level of brutality but I really doubt Tony Wiener’s sexts oe Bill’s sink / humidor experiments are unique, or anything but arrogance getting carried away.
Lets not forget Italy’s recent delve into the sexual depths with young hookers or the SecServ’s South American activities.
We are led by people who have a stranglehold on the ultimate aphrodisiac...power. To think they do not indulge to the extremes is not logical.
How much American money did this jerk Khadafy receive? Anyone know?
Over the decades, many billions in cash and materials.
