One weekday morning in April 2004, a Libyan girl named Soraya was accorded one of her nations highest honors: Col. Moammar Khadafy was visiting her school, and Soraya alone had been chosen to present him with a bouquet.
You cant imagine the excitement, she recalled. To see Khadafy in person . . . His face had been known to me since I was born. Soraya was ushered into a makeshift dressing room, where she changed into traditional garb for the Libyan woman: red pants and tunic, small hat.
My heart was beating a hundred miles a minute, Soraya said. She was 15 years old, a good Muslim girl who had never had a sip of alcohol, a drag from a cigarette or kissed a boy. It all happened very fast. I held out the bouquet, then took his free hand in mine and kissed it as I bowed down . . . I felt like I was on a cloud. Then he patted her head.
In that one moment, Khadafy had indeed marked Soraya as special. And soon she would disappear completely.
What happened to Soraya is recounted in Annick Cojeans staggering new book, Gaddafis Harem: The Story of a Young Woman and the Abuses of Power in Libya (Grove Press). In the aftermath of the 2011 revolution and killing of Khadafy by a rebel militia, Soraya spent days recounting her ordeal to French journalist Cojean.
I will never forget what it felt like to watch her relive certain crucial moments of her life, Cojean writes, the horror of which hasnt left her.
The day after Sorayas presentation to Khadafy, three members of his famed all-female militia came looking for her.

Nice.
If only our own media were as courageous to publish the truth about another "leader."
Good point.
Quite true. This is the normal behavior of a Muslim potentate. That’s what’s behind the whole idea of a harem.
You just know Bill is hacked off that he had to settle for NOW and some state troopers Moammar had Amazonian Guard.
I look at it this way and to date, not one of FR’s/any place elses’ ‘lesser evil’ fanboys will address the issue. They make excuses, but you will never see one answer this.
Evil, in any form is a zero sum entity. It has fixed endpoints. All evil or no evil. When we accept ‘lesser evil’ to get what we want or ‘more of’ what we want, we fill a little more of the evil bucket and remove some from the ‘not evil’ bucket to do it.
For decades now, the GOP and other power brokers on the world stage *as well as fanboys online) insist we keep adding to that evil bucket one little piece at a time to supposedly save us from the ‘greater evil’.
Who made that evil ‘greater’ to begin with?
We did. One drop in the bucket at a time.
So now they argue we have to keep playing the game of incrementalism to postpone the ‘greater evil’ from taking control...while making it ever stronger one vote and incremental capitulation at a time.
Now if one of the fanboys out there wishes to dispute that rock solid logic without namecalling or excuses, please, feel free to do it. Good luck trying.
So when Khadafys guards showed up and said the dictator wished to see Soraya for an hour or two, her mother reluctantly agreed.
Just like Bill Clinton sending the Arkansas state troopers for Paula Jones.
Ugly and terrible monster.
Reggie Love and Larry Sinclair have similar stories.
When is your next one coming out? I’ve been a fan of yours even before I knew that you were on FreeRepublic.
Before he died, he got a taste of the same treatment at the hands of his enemies. That’s not as bad as what he’s likely receiving on the other side of eternity.
Could you elaborate specifically what you mean by this?
Reagan had the right idea. Too bad he missed.
Give it a few years.. America will start to look the same. Same sex marriage has started in mass, polygamy is next, then sex with kids will be ok and then beastiality around the corner.
This is what they call progressivism.
Sure. It’s basic math. Every time we say ‘We will trade away X principle”, our opponents make a gain. Whether that’s AQ or Kadaffy or the GOP/Dems.
Every time we help arm muslims, they in turn, use it against us. Every time we help empower regiems that are wholly contradictory to the ideals of the American Republic, we empower just that. And history has shown it time and time again.
And the same applies to American politics. Every time we give an inch on one of our political beliefs in ‘exchange’ for going along, we slit our own throats and take a dump on the very idea of conservative philosophy and the Constitution (which are one and the same).
as I said, it’s a zero sum game. Every compromise we make is a benefit for the opposition regardless of who that opposition is.
We have compromises ourselves from the American ideals of 1776 to those of 2013. And who did that? Generations of ‘us’ who repeatedly said ‘Oh we’ll just give a little here to get a little there.”
Problem is that 1: we never get a little back and 2: when you compromise with evil, it always comes out on top/you on the short end of the deal.
Thank you for the explanation. I assumed that was what you meant.
Just curious, where do you as an individual feel as though you fit into this?
Do you feel that there is no choice for you other than to disagree with the policies and accept any positives or negatives that go along with the results of those policies, or do you take an active role in either advocacy or personal decisions (such as boycotting products, open demonstration, running for office, etc.)
Come on, Soraya, the entire world knows by now that there’s no fate in store for a Moslem woman other than being f***ed up the b*tt like a camel.
