Is the Zimmerman Case Really Open and Shut?
Front Page ^ | 7/5/13 | David Horowitz

Is the Zimmerman case really open and shut?

Many conservatives seem to think so. But are they letting leftists dictate their conclusion? Are they not guilty of the same rush to judgment that made liberals convict Zimmerman before the facts, and merely reacting to that injustice rather than to the actual elements of the case? Is it not possible that they are themselves victims of a toxic environment that polarizes all things racial?

It is a fact that many, if not most conservatives have already concluded that George Zimmerman is innocent of any crime in connection with Trayvon Martin’s death and should be acquitted if justice is to be served. Indeed, this opinion was formed long before the trial began as a reaction to the outcry of liberals that Zimmerman was guilty — and guilty of being white – and that the crime was murder, and must be punished. But just because a lynch mob has formed to condemn Zimmerman in advance of the facts, does not mean one must conclude that Zimmerman is innocent of Trayvon Martin’s death.

The political melodrama that surrounds, and often overwhelms the judgments in this case reflects a culture war that has been roiling in this country for decades. It is a war in which the liberal ethos of “political correctness” requires that whites are bad and blacks are victims. Right-thinking individuals are justified in rejecting this poisonous standard. But in the interests of justice, the political melodrama should also not be allowed to obscure the reality of this trial: it is about the death of an unarmed 17-year-old, who was not a felon, who was on a neighborhood run to get Skittles, and whose life has been extinguished. Given that the young man was unarmed and that he inflicted very superficial injuries on

No,Mr Horowitz, there's far more to it than that.Having paid close attention to the testimony would have shown you that.

The facts have been known for a year. When O'Mara demonstrates next week that Saint Trayvon walked or ran the length of a football field, twice, for the purpose of ambushing George Zimmerman from the shadows, the MSM will be astonished and amazed at this "bombshell".

Horowitz never lost his "white guilt" completely. I don't know if someone who was infected from birth with it, can. They are always mindful of losing face with the "respectable right" even if they don't mind the left.

He’s lying. There are bushes and shadows everywhere at the attack site.

Superficial injuries?

A broken nose is considered superficial?

You would think if Zimmerman was jonesing that night for an easy mark to satisfy his racist bloodlust as the media/race agitators suggest, he would have shot trayvon long before the sweet little cherub had the opportunity to redesign GZ’s face.

And BTW,Mr Horowitz....OJ was.despite his claims to the contrary,100% *guilty*.Senior Zimmerman is,at least as likely than not (if not *more* likely than not) guilty of nothing more than having defended himself against a 6 foot tall gansta punk who,it was shown (through the sworn testimony of Miss Slim Jeans),had a thing about “crackers” as well as having a level of THC in his system which the County ME said could have effected Martin's thinking and behavior.

Trayvon was not a felon because he was 17 and hadn't been charged yet for his drug dealing or the burglaries that filled his backpack up with ladies jewelry.

And any article that talks about his sweet tooth, as if that's why he was buying the skittles, is missing key information.

Additionally, the gun was in play once the fight started. If Zimmerman didn't use it, Trayvon sure as hell would have.

Horowitz embarrassed himself with this article, expressing his opinion despite his obvious lack of facts.

Zimmerman made the right call and will be acquitted. Very minimal rioting - a couple broken windows and disorderly arrests.

No. It is not. The Left thinks it is open and shut for conviction.

Be assured that there is NOTHING like actually being in the courtroom and sitting as a juror. Watching on television is pretty meaningless. To try and gauge guilt or innocence from watching a trial on TV is a fools errand.

I was a Prosecutor or 25 years and have watched some of the trial and wouldn’t even think of making a call on it.

Horowitz is preparing for pro-bono appeal of GZ. (BTW, he only handles appeals.)

Horowitz really missed the mark here. His premise is that we conservatives shouldn’t jump to a conclusion of innocence. Then David completely ignores the American principle that Zimmerman is innocent until proven guilty. And the examples of Zims “guilt” are simply untrue, a matter of opinion, or something Horowitz doesn’t understand very well.

Zim is charged with second degree murder. Horowitz should look up the definition if he wants to see where the miscarriage of justice is. Most reasonable people will see that there is “reasonable doubt” that he acted maliciously and with a depraved mindset to murder. And it’s pretty clear there was a fight of some kind.

David, I don’t know what’s gotten into you. But you blew this one big time.

I remain confused about SYG out of your house - and I have CCW and carry every day.

I was always taught that, if you carry, you have a higher duty to “stay out of trouble”. Cross the street. Buy ‘em a drink. Back off.

Obviously, if you are attacked in and around your house (and not by your girlfriend’s husband, etc) your SYG rights are clear.

But if you wade into a group of scumbags BECAUSE you are carrying (if you weren’t, you would have gone another way) - I’m not so sure about that.

Trayvon jumping out of the bushes to attack him — because those bushes don’t exist...

Didn’t know this.

That is because it is not true. There are bushes around the air conditioning units next to the condos. Horowitz is usually good, but he dropped the ball on this.

Zimmerman’s class on defense law did NOT include the Florida statute known as Stand Your Ground. They discussed, in depth, the concept of the Castle Doctrine and self-defense, but the Florida Statue, specifically, was not part of the official syllabus.

this opinion was formed long before the trial began as a reaction to the outcry of liberals that Zimmerman was guilty

Untrue and insulting.

It was formed as a result of the photos of Zimmerman's face, his general demeanor, and subsequently as copies of Martin's on-line communications emerged. The latter will never be seen by the jury, but the general public knows of it if they want to know.

Its shouldn't be that hard to put yourself in the shoes of the man on the bottom having his face beat in and his head caved in. What do you do?

Martin's age is meaningless as Zimmerman had no way of knowing his age nor, as he was being beaten into the pavement, would he have reason to care.

If you Google Map 111 Retreat View Circle - where Zimmerman told the dispatcher he was calling from - the satellite view shows trees and bushes.

Horowitz is obviously bothered by the death of Trayvon Martin when a situation that could have been avoided escalated. The tragedy here is that young people are volatile and are prone to sudden acts which they often regret. Martin was no angel and Zimmerman took his neighborhood watch role a bit too far. However it is the jury’s responsibility to to convict beyond a reasonable doubt. Highly unlikely they will be able to convict. If however the verdict is followed by urban violence and innocent deaths, place the blame squarely at the feet of the irresponsible media and the politically correct prosecutors and politicians who brought this case forward.

Sanford PD didn’t charge GZ because the physical evidence supports his claims as does an eye witness.

Charges were filed after out of state agitators generated protests and pressured Federal and State officials into forcing charges.

Recall the New Black Panthers who during a planning conference call advised “boot up and suit up”, Al “Twana Brawley” Sharpton leading marches and then on his MSNBC program reporting on the march, and Jesse “Hymie-town” Jackson.

Racists and thugs, charlatans, and hypocrites. While they busy themselves preying on a family’s grief to advance their own agenda and livelihood, where are they in Chicago? Where are they at Miami’s Urban Beach Weekend? Or Virginia Beach? Or Philadelphia?

Given that the young man was unarmed and that he inflicted very superficial injuries on his adversary during their scuffle, Zimmerman’s claim that he was in fear for his life has to be taken with a grain of salt, to say the least.

David has been sucking some of the same rarified air as Michael Savage. Maybe some thugs will introduce him to the sidewalk outside his residence to help him clear up his head.
