Whistleblower Edward Snowden might soon be living up to his frigid last name as Icelandic lawmakers have put legislation on the table that would make the NSA's most wanted man a citizen of the polar country.
Member of Iceland's parliament Ögmundur Jónasson first made the proposition this morning, the last day before the 63-member legislative body begins their summer leave.
Granting citizenship to Snowden, who admits to revealing key details of U.S. surveillance activities would circumvent the rule that he must be on Icelandic soil to apply for asylum there.

On the bright side, he is staying in a 4 star hotel that costs about $400 per night.
Not quite as swank as his Hong Kong digs, but pretty sweet.
This guy has spent about $20,000 on this grand tour so far. Or someone has.
Unreal!!!
Or more likely a skazka? Yesterday, the famous red-headed Russian spy Anna Chapman tweeted Snowden a marriage proposal.

Illegally. Don't know how easily that is from Russia unless they're eager to rid of him.
Really? Let’s go!
Yes, ‘illegally’.. which ain’t happening.
So he either had to jump into a maid’s laundry cart, dress up as a bellboy or some airport staff and stowaway. He couldn’t just walk out of the hotel... it’s a big ‘un, but surely well-watched.
Sure he could. It's like one of those spy movies. All of us little people all over the world really want him to outsmart the US spy machine. Do you really think there's anyone in Russia who wouldn't think it's totally hilarious if he snuck out and ended up somewhere the US couldn't drone him?
Obama might be able to use scare tactics to stop countries from taking him in. But once he gets somewhere, there would be a real uproar if a government turned him over to the US.
This is all too weird for me to handle. In the US I grew up in, he'd come home and get a fair trial.
Nah, that Moon guy at UN already condemned him...’3 Jul 2013: Ban makes remarks in Reykjavik but Icelandic MP Birgitta Jónsdóttir says it was ‘wrong for Ban to condemn Snowden personally’
What I want to know is what’s stopping some goons from just grabbing him? If that hasn’t already happened.
Are there any realistic claims that Bradley Manning, for example, is not receiving a fair trial?
Iceland has cute girls...he will be happy there!
Yes. Good point.
Spent a couple of months there in 76. I thought they were.
Flying to Iceland on legit papers or just popping up tomorrow for the vote in Iceland? I guess he might just try to travel in the aboveboard manner. I myself would stowaway.
‘Why, Mr. Snowden. Were your ears burning?’
Me too... who comes up with this stuff, anyway?

One of the problems that many find about Snowden is that he lied about his commitment towards his sworn allegiance. So far, he released a blurb about considerations of US government over-reach. Most knew that FACT.
What the dishonest worker did not suggest are the details or more gobble-de-goop.
