At age 80, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, leader of the Supreme Court's liberal wing, says she is in excellent health, even lifting weights despite having cracked a pair of ribs again, and plans to stay several more years on the bench.
In a Reuters interview late on Tuesday, she vowed to resist any pressure to retire that might come from liberals who want to ensure that Democratic President Barack Obama can pick her successor before the November 2016 presidential election.

I wonder what her problem with Obastard is?
Let’s see: a GREAT paycheck w/ a horde of young legal interns to do all of your work, a full time security detail, no way to be removed & being one of the most powerful people in the world..............hmmmmmmm...........maybe there’s another reason?????!!!!!
You still haven't figured the GOP out, huh?
He’s in office till Jan 2017, so if she retires in ‘16, at the end of the Court’s term in June, why wouldn’t he appoint her successor? Not that she would retire in an election year, but what if she (or any of the others) dies? He does the appointing thru 2016. The Senate could delay if they were so inclined.
I know what option I'd pick at 80.
I hope she lasts three and a half more years.
Good point & I agree, if I was 80 w/ all of that I would definitely choose the beach! Also she & Scalia are best friends. Maybe that says something about her & Obama.
Kinda wonder if she isn’t just a bit miffed at Bengazhi Obama......
I’m more afraid of a conservative being replaced by a liberal, than a liberal being replaced with another liberal.
moderates are just liberals in denial. or liberals who know if they say they’re moderate they can use incrementalism under the guise of compromise and fairness and alleged objectivity.
I wouldn’t place too much weight on that “tradition.” Earl Warren announced his retirement in June 1968, smack in the middle of the presidential race, with his retirement to take effect upon confirmation of his replacement. Lyndon Johnson didn’t say “hey, the voters will elect a new president in November, so the winner should nominate the new Chief Justice”; he didn’t waste any time and nominated his buddy Justice Abe Fortas. After contentious confirmation hearings, the Senate held a cloture vote on October 1: needing 67 votes, the motion only got 45, and Fortas dropped out of consideration. Only then did LBJ decide to allow the next president to name the new Chief Justice, knowing full well that the Senate wouldn’t confirm an eleventh-hour nominee from him.
Yup. Hang in there, Ginsburg. At least until the next election. If we win that one, you’ll be replaced by a functional human. If we lose, well, then the country is done.
Have you dealt with many full blown narcissists in person? You betcha he would.
But you’re not a power mad narcissist.
Yeah. You bet. Integrity is her first choice, not egoism.
