President Obama's Egypt policy—if you can call it that—has been a feckless disaster. He has somehow managed to score the dubious hat trick of alienating former President Mubarak's supporters in the military, the backers of ousted President Morsi, and the millions in the street whose demonstrations led the military to depose him.
So what image of President Obama does Today feature this morning in its segment on Egypt? Why, of PBO extending a forceful fist toward a tableful of aides, including Susan Rice and Eric Holder. Such a strong leader, that Obama!

This gesture, hand extended with curled fingers with thumb extended, is the classic politician's mechanism meant to convey metrosexual 'determination' while not appearing threatening (i.e., not like Nikita Kruschev banding his shoe on the table or raising a clenched fist Panther Style).
Frankly, it is a gesture for pussies. A real man wouldn't do this. Nor would a real reporter claim it 'forceful'.

I think their public-speaking coaches must teach them this and the few other standard but odd, masturbatory one- or two-handed gestures they all seem to use, but for what purpose? To keep them from picking their noses, or playing with themselves, or giving the electorate/audience the finger?
What’s this gesture supposed to convey, other than, “I am Bill Clinton, and I did NOT have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky”?
