Current and former federal officials who played key roles in the investigation of one of the nation's worst aviation disasters said Tuesday they stand by their conclusion that the explosion of TWA flight 800 was caused by overheated fuel tank vapors, and not a bomb or missile.
The officials spoke to reporters at a briefing on the National Transportation Safety Board's four-year investigation following the explosion and crash of the Boeing 747 off Long Island, N.Y., on July 17, 1996, killing all 230 people on board. The board took the usual step of organizing the briefing on an investigation that has been closed for years. That's in response to a new documentary film set to air this month on the 17th anniversary of the tragedy. The film says new evidence points to the often-discounted theory that a missile strike may have downed the jumbo jet.

Ping to Nut Job Conspiracy...
Our believable government. The brazenest lie ever.
Too late...the truth has already rolled out.
They LIED for Clinton, and then the US was attacked
because of their abdication on 911.
THEY BELONG IN PRISON for misprision of felony
and aiding al Qaeda
(even if it is in vogue in the White Hut).
then why does no one believe this?
From the article:
“One of the former investigators who signed the petition, Hank Hughes, was in charge of reconstructing the interior of the aircraft cabin for NTSB from debris recovered from the ocean. Hughes said the board “completely discounted” the accounts of more than 200 witnesses who say they saw a streak of light heading toward the plane before it broke apart.
Standing in the rain outside the NTSB briefing, Hughes also said the plane’s reconstructed fuselage — which reporters were allowed to view after the briefing — has holes consistent with what would be expected from missile shrapnel. Reporters weren’t able to see the holes, he said, because they were on the opposite side of the reconstructed plane, facing away from the board’s briefing area.
Hughes offered no explanation why his former colleagues would deliberately ignore important evidence.
“As far as motivation, who did what and why, we didn’t get into that,” he said. “I don’t know.”
Sooooo, 200+ witnesses didn’t see what they saw. Still.
The fact that you had the FBI and CIA involved in an airline disaster investigation, and that the CIA felt compelled to produce an animated video of an explosion/crash sequence that was comical to anyone who had flown an airplane, made this thing suspicious from the get-go.
It’s why I haven’t flown commercial since 1996. If I can’t drive there (I also CCW), I’m not going.
What are those Long Islanders going to believe, the official report, or their lying eyes?
If the cause was really the faulty wiring in the center fuel tank of the plane, why weren’t Boeing 747s grounded world-wide to correct the problem?
We were watching the news the night it happened, and heard from multiple eyewitnesses that night. I call bullshit on this. These people are covering their butts. They really have no choice.
It’s Clinton’s fault. He demanded the coverup for election purposes IMO.
They meant to scare 'em ... not shoot 'em down.
oops ... sorrey.
The Gov’t sure doesn’t want any eyewitnesses messing-up the “official story”, does it?
The fuel tank explosion explanation also raises the question of why all 747’s worldwide were not grounded until a fix could be effect.
BINGO! Now they take a worldwide fleet of 787s out-of-service because of a warm battery?
What does the NSA say?
If this case was so cut and dried, why did the government threaten multiple witnesses who contradicted the official story?
The government has been proven many times now to have lied, not just about this case but in many cases; the latest being the “rogue” IRS agent story. Once someone is shown to be a compulsive lier, you can never trust anything they say. The government now exists not to serve the people, but to protect itself from the people.
Well, it seems that we are all in agreement...
