A conservative group has endorsed Republican Pat McGeehan over Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) in the West Virginia Senate race.
The National Republican Liberty Caucus, which counts Tea Party-backed Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) among its endorsements, issued its first endorsement of the 2014 cycle for McGeehan.
Pat McGeehan has shown leadership skills badly needed in the Senate," said RLC Chairman Matt Nye in a statement. "Receiving the Republican Liberty Caucus endorsement is a testament to his commitment to the principles of individual liberty, limited government, and free enterprise."
McGeehan is running as a conservative alternative to Capito, who was the first Republican to launch a run for retiring Sen. Jay Rockefeller's (D-W.Va.) seat.
Capito has establishment backing and a considerable war chest, but she's been criticized by conservatives for her votes on the financial bailout and debt ceiling increases, among other issues. She's received a lifetime score of 50 percent from the Club for Growth, and both the Club and the Senate Conservatives Fund, another far-right group, have expressed opposition to her bid.

Capito should not be our candidate in 2014. Her moderateness could end up with her going up against a Demonrat who tactically runs to her right on issues like abortion.
McGeehan seems solid, but I don't know much about him. Any West Virginia Freepers got some insight from the ground?
Whoever it is ought to campaign on the Cruz platform that got the State Department to appoint an Inspector General after years of delay—a hold on all nominations to EPA until some specific remedies to Obama’s lies are announced.
For anyone running for this seat, the EPA is the deserving punching bag.
“and both the Club and the Senate Conservatives Fund, another far-right group..”
Classic media bias.

Capito, her voting record, per National Right to Life
she is not prolife, but inaccurate to compare her to NARAL gal Suzie Collins.
voting record improved since 2009
West Virginia US Senate, conservative challenge to Capito ping
She has failed to be conservative in other areas a swell, mainly spending.
“Congresswoman Capito is not someone we can endorse because her spending record in the House is too liberal,” said SCF Executive Director Matt Hoskins. “If Republicans in West Virginia want to save their country, they need to find another candidate with the courage say ‘no’ to more spending and debt.”
DeMint’s group is usually a good judge of candidates. It would be hard to be as collectively terrible as Collins, but Capito is still a squish.
I thought the same way u did at first..and really not knowing all the facts. But I agree with everything u said. Also I hope Sarah Palin comes out for McGeehan...or has she already?
In WV, name ID trumps everything else. Robert C. Byrd could win from the grave if someone could figure out how to get his name on the ballot.
Who will the rats run? Do they have anyone with name recognition?

McGeehan
meanwhile, mad scramble for Capito House seat, primary looming
We could do a lot worse. At least someone didn't call up perennial candidate John Raese and ask him to run again.
I think AuH2ORepublican expressed reservations about Capito because the RATs could win a Senate race against her by running someone who campaigns to her right on social issues, and I agree. It doesn't matter what the RAT's true beliefs really are, if Capito is the nominee they will run another phony Manchin/Casey Jr. type RAT who tells everyone how much he loves guns, babies, and Jesus, and a bunch of gullible West Virginia voters will elect the "pro-traditional values Christian" phony over Capito.
It's a long shot, but I think McGeehan at least has a shot.
Oh, BTW, does West Virgina count as one of those "red states" (sorry I refuse to use the media terminology to describe strongly conservative states) where we're allowed to oppose RINOs? Because even in Alaska, conservatives defended RINOs like Murkowski as the "best we can get" and I bet we'll hear the same argument from "conservatives" backing Capito.
Capito’s problem is that she is too (Republican) establishment. She should’ve run against Manchin when she had the chance. At this point, we need true, unapologetic reformists in the mode of Ted Cruz. She just isn’t it.
I haven’t seen too many signs of that yet. There was an outcry from some West Virginian conservative group that Capito was a RINO.
I’m not too familiar with the WV GOP.
Now, the Alaska GOP is top to bottom full of Murkowski crooks who hated Palin and hated Miller too. The Illinois GOP is similarly corrupt.
As well as the Rovian RINOrgy at the national level with old Bush-bots and Reince Pukus, the establishment in some of these states also needs fumigating.
I think we are allowed to back McGeehan because I doubt he has any witchcraft in his youth.
A tough hurdle for an Irishman to win over those small-town DEMS in southern WVA. Dj, those hillbilly DEMS gonna back McGeehan? He sounds like a yankee. Must be from the north.
That’s just it! She had more than a couple of chances so what does she do? Waits for an open seat. She’s not a team player. @014 will/shouls be a good year. Let’s go for broke! She can run for the other seat in 2-4 years.
Bump
NRL has lowered the Pro-Life bar with abortion after 20 weeks being banned now considered Pro-Life.
They listed my former congressman in bold letters as “PRO-LIFE” even though he had a 57 percent rating with them.
Another candidate who was all out Pro-Life as a newcomer only got a “Pro-Life” less bold rating on the voter guide.
National Right To Life is aligned with the GOP-E to promote insider incumbent politician candidates.
Ronald Reagan signed a law in California and took the public position as president that abortion should not be legal unless it involves rape, incest or the life of the mother from the beginning of pregnancy, not at 20 weeks like the GOP-E is pushing now.
Back in 1960 they say it took a lot of bribery but some guy named Kennedy won a Democrat primary there.
They voted "fur" that Irishman Kennedy long ago. They voted "aginst" that Black Irishman O'Bammy twice (who failed to carry a single county in '12). I think a lot of West Virginians are starting to return to their pre-1932 voting habits (when the state was heavily Republican from the McKinley era). It's breaking GOP from the top down.
"Dj, those hillbilly DEMS gonna back McGeehan? He sounds like a yankee. Must be from the north."
His hometown is Chester, which is the northernmost town in the state of WV, just about in the Pittsburgh media market (I'm presuming). That's also closer to Cleveland than Charleston (the capitol). Being from the extreme north end of the state might be a problem. He might be better off opening a campaign HQ in Charleston (right in the middle of Capito Country). He's also going to have to do some major fundraising, too.
