"A tough hurdle for an Irishman to win over those small-town DEMS in southern WVA."

They voted "fur" that Irishman Kennedy long ago. They voted "aginst" that Black Irishman O'Bammy twice (who failed to carry a single county in '12). I think a lot of West Virginians are starting to return to their pre-1932 voting habits (when the state was heavily Republican from the McKinley era). It's breaking GOP from the top down.

"Dj, those hillbilly DEMS gonna back McGeehan? He sounds like a yankee. Must be from the north."

His hometown is Chester, which is the northernmost town in the state of WV, just about in the Pittsburgh media market (I'm presuming). That's also closer to Cleveland than Charleston (the capitol). Being from the extreme north end of the state might be a problem. He might be better off opening a campaign HQ in Charleston (right in the middle of Capito Country). He's also going to have to do some major fundraising, too.

Get a load of this.

“The last time Republicans elected a senator in West Virginia was 1956,” former Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA) told TPM. Davis, who used to chair the NRCC, said, “Shelley Moore Capito is their only hope of electing a Republican senator and a conservative this cycle. So the fact that you have some groups opposing her I think explains why we are in the minority in the Senate.”

1: she’s not a conservative
2: “our only chance!” It’s almost funny to hear these RINOS whine. And Allen was “our only chance” in Virginia.
