House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell E. Issa said Friday he believes the woman at the center of the IRS scandal waived her Fifth Amendment rights when she came before the committee last month.
I have considered the matter deliberately, including the opinion of Lois Lerners lawyers, Mr. Issa said,
Ms. Lerner, director of tax-exempt organizations for the IRS, began the witnesses testimony by denying that she acted improperly and then invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.
I have not done anything wrong. I have not broken any laws, she said. I have not violated any IRS rules or regulations, and I have not provided false information to this or any other congressional committee.
Mr. Issa dismissed Ms. Lerner from the witness table, but Rep. Trey Gowdy, South Carolina Republican, objected, saying that since she made a brief statement in her defense, that effectively waived her right to invoke the Fifth Amendment.

Since when does rule of law apply to liberals?
Issa should never have let her leave the room. He should have suspended the hearing to consult with attorneys and made her keep her lying ass in the chair until they got legal ruling.
Well, call her back and start asking questions.
For all the good it will do...
I hear you and it’s seldom, probably won’t in this matter either.
Thanks to Trey Gowdy for calling out the sham!
So they recall Lerner, and she again refuses to testify, and they hold her in contempt. Isn’t this just like Holder?
a short lived PR victory at best?
Elijah Cummings will pull every trick out of the hat to derail calling her back, IMO.
Have the Sargent-at-Arms arrest her, cuff her and frogmarch her out.
Or she just lies, and dares Issa to do anything about it.
Republican tactic:
Strike while the iron is hotStrike when the iron is as cold as Nancy Pelosi's heart.
“Since when does rule of law apply to liberals?”
Exactly.
Prediction: Nothing will happen. Nothing to see here. Move along. Move along.
Reset II - it’s not only a good idea, it’s becoming the only idea.
Amen to that, a shame we don’t have many more like Trey Gowdy.

Howdy called it right away, Mr. Chairman...
Shoulda listened to him...
Good grief!!!
That’s Gowdy, you POS iPad.....
Welcome!
You really should watch those segments in the House Oversight Committee.
They brought up an amendment and a resolution. It was on c-span 2 so it may be replayed on tv at some time.
I could not watch all of it, but there was one congress member (a Democrat) who was calling out Issa for a “witch hunt”.
I’ll have to watch it again (didn’t catch it at the time) because I was not clear exactly what the outcome was of the amendment vote or the resolution vote.
