Hey folks,
Were trying something different for todays mid-day update. Rather than write a bunch of text, Ive imbedded below some of the more key tweets Ive made over the course of the morning. (This has the benefit of giving me a few minutes to each some lunch.)
Hopefully, the tweets below will give you a sense for how Wests cross-examination of Rachel Jeantel has gone so far this morning. Well have a detailed analysis, of course, in this evenings end-of-day wrap-up post.
Enjoy, and be sure to check back in to our live coverage page at 1:14PM (EST), here:
Zimmerman Trial LIVE VIDEO Day 4 States Witnesses(continued)

Been watching a little of the trial on HLN. All the legal “experts” seem to be in agreement that this incoherent, no-respect poster child for public schooling has been a disaster for the prosecution. Except of course any black woman they ask, and they of course will tell you how how smart she is and how her testimony is a prosecutor’s dream. The men weigh in and are ridiculed for telling the truth about this female gangbanger with an attitute.
Everything's better when it sits on a Ritz...
“CREEPY ASS CRACKER” would make a GREAT BUMPER STICKER!
Origin of the term “Cracker:”
When farmers from Georgia and S. Carolina emigrated to Florida, they moved their herds of cattle with whips, cracking them to control the herds. Thus, they were “Crackers.”
Some of my ancestors were Florida Crackers and I’m proud of them.
As a teacher, I observed that the fine motor control learned in cursive (and calligraphy) seemed to help develop critical thinking skills. Of course, if one doesn’t want the students to develop critical thinking skills, one would not want them to take the time to learn cursive, or even how to block print neatly.
That woman has always driven me batty with her diplomatic nicey nice views. It is a bit much!
I sincerely hope that Saint Trayvon (who,I learned today was 6' 2" when he died) becomes well known to the jury.
Nonsense. I was recently in the home of Cuban inmigrants who don’t speak any English - and probably never will - whose ten year old son spoke perfectly and was also smart and probing.
our word.
That’s funny! Sherry Shepard went on and on about Paula Deen and how the N word was their word and only THEY were allowed to use it because of it being THEIR culture.
Unless this is intended as sarcasm, it is terrible and represents the opposite of Conservative values.
Here is another news flash: Not one word of the constitution has a different meaning when printed than it had written longhand.
Sad for you to hear, I understand. These kids today don't know how to chop wood, shoe a horse, plant a garden, butcher a hog, or much else once thought essential.
Much of the criticism of the education we see in the US is justified. No longer wasting time on penmanship is not justified.
Again, the “time marches on” meme represents the opposite of Conservative values.
She;s a LIBERAL chick....pathetic.
There’s a reason it was illegal to teach slaves to read.
Interestingly enough in the early days of American slavery, slaves were often taught to read because it was expected that they would eventually be free and independent.
George Whitfield started out as a supporter of slavery as a means of freeing blacks from the barbarism of Africa. He encouraged people to teach their slaves to read and eventually he turned fully against slavery. Phyllis Wheatley was an emancipated slave who became a fairly well known poet in the 1700s eulogized Whitfield at his funeral and wrote glowingly about him.
George Washington’s slaves were educated to varying degrees and his personal servant (Billy Lee) was rumored to be nearly as well educated as Washington himself.
Almost to a man, our founders stressed education as one of the most important keys remaining a free nation.
Those same skills can be learned just as well engaged in other tasks that are not obsolete.
Cooking, mechanical work, art, etc. I would point out soldering but that is becoming obsolete as well.
I am not against developing motor skills, but lets do it in a useful task. And lets get them typing and programming early.
Obviously you take a very liberal view of miseducation.
It leads to a nation in bondage.
STAR WITNESS. Liar that can’t read or write.
Jeantel, head bowed, eyes averted whispered into the court microphone, "Some but not all. I don't read cursive."
It sent a hush through the packed courtroom.
Huh? I could see it sending a murmur, but reporting that it 'sent a hush' is nonsensical.
Interesting. Thanks for the info. Solves my problem LOL. Whenever I have to make plans or write something I start at the computer to save on paper. It's easier to delete or fix sentences. For some reason I always end up using a pen and paper after staring at a screen for a while. Now, I'll go straight to doing things the old fashioned way.
