Cursive probably hasn't really been needed, since the invention of the ball-point pen. It was needed in the days of quill pens, because you wouldn't have to lift and reposition the nib so often. On that basis alone, I suppose you're right. It doesn't seem right somehow though -- yet another skill I spent a lot of time acquiring, has become obsolete.
