Obama clashes with African host over gay rights

President Barack Obama on Thursday praised the Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage as a "victory for American democracy" but clashed with his African host over gay rights in a sign of how far the movement has to go internationally.

Obama said recognition of gay unions in the United States should cross state lines and that equal rights should be recognized universally. It was his first chance to expand on his thoughts about the ruling, which was issued Wednesday as he flew to Senegal, one of many African countries that outlaw homosexuality.

*snip*

Papi Nbodj, a 19-year-old student who stood by the road to the presidential palace to see Obama's arrival, said homosexuality is against the religious beliefs of most in Senegal.

"We are in a Muslim country, so we certainly cannot have it here," he said. "And for me it's not OK to have this anywhere in the world."

Sometimes I think if Christians stood up for Biblical morality with even 10% of the passion that Muslims defend the Koran, this country would be in a lot better shape.

If they did, gay marriage would have never seen the light of day in a courtroom.

people who are unrepentent are now allowed to commit crimes against God. To sit back and allow it is a sin against Justice. Do we have to wait for people to repent before we stop their crimes?

“Blessed are those who seek Justice for Justice sake.”

That is why it was so virtuous for those in CALIFORNIA to fight for Prop8. If only we had more of that in every state.

Objectively speaking, gay radicalism and abortion activism are crimes even though our political system treats such political activism as a human right.

The just will rule over the impious.

Exactly. I wonder how well Shariah Law will work side by side with leftist pagan secularism?

There's a book describing one man's attempt to follow the Bible's instructions perfectly. I don't remember much of it, but I do remember that he ended up taking a folding chair with him everywhere, because the Bible said never to sit in a seat that had been previously occupied by a menstruating woman.

The Old Testament has rules on everything from washing linens to plastering your walls. Most probably made sense at the time, but just aren't practical now.

Which is why I'm glad Jesus changed the rules.

Absolutely. I give the Muslims credit in that they really don’t care what people think. Christians are always afraid of being called backward, prudish, intolerant, bigoted, homophobic, or whatever other insult the liberals can toss out.

Unless, of course, those "equal rights" are to apply to babies who have not been born yet...

We would most assuredly find ourselves in better stead under such a circumstance. Replete is the panoply of history with divine blessing of nations that uphold His laws, striving for the good and noble. This extends even to non-Christian lands whose degree of conformity to His law makes them "a law unto themselves".

We celebrate debauchery and deviance to our own great peril. We sip the bitter juice of fruit cultivated in the vineyards of unrighteousness. And we mock those who make the connection as backwards and superstitious.

We call evil good, and good evil.

You seek a qualification and it is this: The so-called “equal rights” extend to those who can vote. We fail the von Goethe test most spectacularly, our character being judged by how we treat those who can do nothing for us. It’s a regrettable - and for many of us, desperate - state of affairs.

Countries that lost a substantial portion of their population to AIDS might tend to have a narrower view of the glories of homosexualism.

Gore himself lost Tennessee; I guess they learned something.

“Last night I said to my wife “I feel very Moslem at the moment”.”

I’ve said that for years; in a conflict between Islam and a “fundamentally changed” US, who is in the right?

Maybe, but don’t overestimate the number of serious Christians in this country. Many only consider themselves “Christian” until they meet some religious impediment to behavior they want to pursue.

Abortion is the taking of life. It’s immoral. We should do everything we can to stand for the voiceless millions who are aborted.

I don’t believe anyone advocated developing an immoral country. Rather, what was put forth was basically that America would be better off if Christians worked harder at the behavior modification of the USA in the same way that Islam does in regard to the Koran and those they dominate.

If you like Taliban regimes and punitive militarism parading as religion, then that might be a good idea. But, if you embrace the Gospel message of Jesus which calls out for our hearts and not blind compliance, then you wouldn’t be satisfied.
