In the near future, Americans who own or want guns likely will be subject to rafts of new questions from social scientists, medical researchers and law enforcement officials intent to discover just what guns they own, why they own them and what they intend to use them for not to mention where and how they keep them.
They will also likely have more researchers poring over such issues as whether childhood education programs against gun violence actually work; whether there actually is any relationship between violence in the media and in real life; and whether the safety plans that were drawn up by schools, colleges and communities in the wake of highly publicized mass shootings actually are effective.
Those and many other gun-related questions are the thrust of a new social science research agenda that the Obama administration hopes will keep the push for gun control alive for years to come.
The research agenda is intended to produce mammoth amounts of raw data on American gun owners, users and their circumstances, meaning that violence resulting from firearms use will be studied for its causes, approaches to interventions that could prevent it, and strategies to minimize its health burden.
This includes, for example, such things as the potential health risks and benefits (e.g., suicide rates, personal protection) of having a firearm in the home under a variety of circumstances (including storage practices) and settings.
The agenda, which aims to sidestep Second Amendment political and constitutional issues of gun ownership through its public health focus, was released earlier this month in a 124-page report titled, Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearms Related Violence. It was sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) with financial support from private foundations.

I’ve told my doc and other medical professionals “no” before I even had any.
I am sure there are plenty of “loaners” out there when the bell sounds.
They won’t find anything.
In your opinion how much is too much?
By the time that starts happening I will be long gone and more than likely the armed conflict will have started.
If they ever come into my home, they will be stepping over my dead body.
For general reference: 1. The FBI's average gun fight occurs at 7 feet distance. 2. The overwhelming majority of civilian gun fights are conducted with less than one gun full of ammunition. 3. Having enough ammo to allow "spraying and praying" is exceptionally poor tactics against a trained marksman.
Our guns are legion, and each of them is dedicated to defending life , liberty, property and the constitution from liberal fascists of the Obama movement.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
I had a complete physical checkup a month ago....and there was not a single question asked verbally or on any form about gun ownership. Not to say, it might be there in the future, but for now, it was never asked. I also did not answer any questions on race or religion or education, and there was no pushback or raising of eyebrows. I imagine there are many others who refuse to answer these type of questions. My insurance information, and name, address, age, prior medical history, that was the extent of the questionaire to which I responded.
I am not planning for a weekend of turmoil settled by a call for restraint and a campfire singing kumbaya. Not a night of unruly kids roaming the streets (basically like it is now in some cities), not an isolated encounter with one person trying to steal my wallet. I am planning for an extended period of unrest where service and goods are not available and there is no store to run down to and re-load. A time when the urban masses begin to evacuate their prisons in search of basic needs or just a need to pillage. A time where you are truly on your own and maybe in small groups. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.
I also see a time when more attempts to infringe on our right is mounted so I want to make sure I have enough to last me my lifetime and well into my children’s.
I have no intention of spraying and praying. I will avoid interaction when at all possible. I was a sniper in the military and LEO field and have taught all my children the same mindset. One thing people are overlooking is stealth. I also have an assortment of archery equipment, not for personnel (would if needed) but for game harvesting.
I’d rather have too much than not enough. There is no such thing as too much ammo. Those that think that have never been under fire.
The tipping point was passed long ago. We could go back without conflict but that will take persistence and a great mass awakening, which I am starting to doubt will happen. Sadly, I think we are in for a rough road. Personally I don’t care I am at a point I can sacrifice and do what needs to be done. I cry for my kids and their kids, they are just starting out and will inherit not just this crappy state we are in but all the woes that are to come.
In this new state, evidence or finding anything doesn’t matter.
All they have to find is you.
Possibly me neither unless they like swamps.
how about he pushes for research on how many people doctors and hospitals kill each year?
Hey, I took a cruise of our local Wally World (Lutz/LOL) and the shelves were still bare with 3 guys standing around very sad faced. My Doc’s probably won’t ask as I occasionally wear a NRA T-shirt.
The sad thing is we haven’t seen an opposition party. Republicans got done to them what Jesse Jackson wanted to do to obama. And we didn’t hear one whimper out of them. Blackmail is a hell of a thing. But only dirty people can be blackmailed.
” Ah use OBAMACARE to take away peoples guns.”
He might be dumb enough to try.
“...Jocelyn Elders has developed the safer bullet yet?”
Remember the “polish pistol”?
Rename it the “inner city pistol” — solves a lot of things.
6. No Pets.
Well, poop, what if my kid gets off the leash?
