Tom Pauken, candidate for Texas Governor spoke to the Downtown Houston Pachyderms Thursday, 6-6-2013. Interest was high with nearly sixty in attendance to hear Mr. Pauken. It was one of the largest crowds seen recently. Political club attendees like to hear political speakers that interest them. Tom Pauken fits that bill. Learn more about Tom here.
Anyone running for Governor of the greatest state is something we all have a stake in. Tom has been speaking at several clubs in the area. Harris County is a big deal in winning Texas. We have over two million registered voters. In the 2012 primary we had nearly 250,000 Republican voters. This race is all about the primary. We will have a Republican Governor elected in 2014. I was proud to see Mr. Pauken did not beat on Rick Perry the whole time.
Of course he talked about the normal hot button items such as the IRS scandal and the overreaching of the federal government. He also addressed some real issues which would make our lives better. Like doing away with the Robin Hood Tax also known as chapter 41 wealth equalization or share the wealth. Good luck on that, this has been law since 1993.

elephant
Ok for a moment I thought it was somebody who would get dead animals and stuff them so that you could have a moosehead on your wall.
Looks like something you would find in Thailand.
India.
Use of the term pachyderm should be frowned on by Republicans. First, because it belongs to an obsolete taxonomy; scientifically it is incorrect. Second, because it includes animals other than elephants, including the dreaded R(h)ino.
Maybe pachyderm is the correct terminology. There are so many GOPers who are R(h)inos, such as McCainer, Linda Graham and Marco Rubio. For some reason, R(h)inos insist on keeping their Republican labels and not joining the Democrats. So let them join the pachyderm clubs where they can pontificate on their love affair with Karl Rove and how to bad-mouth Cruz and Palin.
True story... when I was very little, I struggled with the word “elephant”... Mom and dad taught me to call them pachyderms.
Later in life when visiting the Bronx Zoo, I laughed seeing the facade of the elephant house... engraved in stone above the doorway it said “Pachyderm Hall”.
Hmmm .... A breeding ground and home for R(h)inos: Pachyderm Hall at the Bronx Zoo.
Wait a minute ... Perhaps Tom Pauken is not a card-carrying pachyderm R(h)ino. I found this link where he’s described as a conservative and wrote a book complaining about Karl Rove: http://www.dallasnews.com/news/columnists/wayne-slater/20100308-Former-Texas-GOP-chairman-Tom-Pauken-4553.ece
Other than noting that “that’s what google’s for”, Merriam Webster gives:
: any of various nonruminant mammals (as an elephant, a rhinoceros, or a hippopotamus) of a former group (Pachydermata) that have hooves or nails resembling hooves and usually thick skin; especially : elephant
The word is from the Greek for “thick skinned”, so I assume that Pachyderms considered themselves thick-skinned, unlike Scott Brown, Gabriel Gomez and all the other RINOs so muched beloved of LSM and the Democrats.
"Scholar"? Fifty years ago, every American child knew what a pachyderm was.
Sigh....
But 50 years ago, did they know about Kim Kardashian and her TV show. The word pachyderm doesn’t sound hip. When I first stumbled across the article I thought it was a conference for a group of scientists.
Yes you’re right. Did you see the photos in the article link? Some of them looked thick-skinned, or shall we say a bit on the heavy side.
Republican activist group. I believe they are generally younger Republicans with the goal of educating the community on issues. That’s about all I know about them.............
Glad you asked! As a member of a local pachyderm club, I can tell you that the term comes from the Greek and translates as "thick-skinned." It refers to a group of thick-skinned, non-cud-chewing (non-ruminant) hoofed mammals such as, but not limited to, the elephant.
"National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs," founded by Republican George Parker in Columbia, MO ("socialist" capital of Missouri!) about 25 years ago, have the motto, "Free Government requires Active Citizens."
There are local clubs throughout the nation. Check out the website - www.pachyderms.org - and perhaps you'll find one nearby (or, start a new club near you)!
Mr. Pauken is very conservative; he has never won an election but has run multiple times. He lacks name ID among uninformed Republican primary voters though he was formerly the state party chairman.
In the 1990s conservatives in the Houston area formed non-partisan, informal groups to oppose (at the time) Clinton’s perjury. They picked “Pachyderm” to denote they were conservative, not RINOs. The clubs were forerunners to the TEA party groups. I was a member and attended monthly meetings. The Pachydrems influenced quite a few elections on the local and state levels. I didn’t know they were still around. My group included some lifelong democrats and two black ministers. The Pachyderms led the conservative take over of Texas government after Ma Richards. In two election cycles all branches of govt. went republican and conservative.
