Based on Wednesdays Supreme Court ruling, in which the Court majority determined that the Defense of Marriage Acts federal definition of marriage had to incorporate state-based same-sex marriages, Internal Revenue Service regulations could be modified to remove non-profit status for churches across the country.
The DOMA decision makes clear that marriage is a state-to-state issue, meaning that religious institutions that receive non-profit status on the federal level but do not perform or accept same-sex marriages in states where it is legal could have non-profit status revoked.
Furthermore, should the IRS move to revoke federal non-profit status for churches, synagogues and mosques that do not perform same-sex marriage more generally, the Court could easily justify that decision on the basis of eradicating discrimination in religious education.
The Court stated in Romer v. Evans (1996) that states could not take measures to prevent future distinction of gays and lesbians as a protected class under state law; in Lawrence v. Texas (2003) the Court ruled that same-sex sexual activity was Constitutionally protected; in the DOMA case on Wednesday, the Court ruled that DOMA was unconstitutional not merely on federalism grounds, but because it violated the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment and the due process clause of the Fifth Amendment.
On the state level, a movement is already under way to revoke non-profit status for religious organizations that do not abide by the same-sex marriage. In Massachusetts in 2006, Boston Catholic Charities withdrew from adoption services thanks to the state mandate on same-sex adoptions, rather than fight the issue in court. In California, a bill is already making its way through the legislature to bar non-profit status for any religious youth group that discriminates on the basis of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, or religious affiliation.

home churches will boom
See Obamacare exemptions.
That's no lie. We've been shown that this "administration" can and will do just about anything it wants to with little regard for congress or the people. And when congress does put some brakes on his fundamental changes, he finds some other way to circumvent.
Is that your wife?
No, fortunately I’m not married to you.
So you’re “transgendered.” That explains a lot.
Hey I'm 100% all for it. But till then? Churches need to get out from underneath the NPO law Yoke ASAP. Remember this also. Government used NPO to put church ran hospitals either out of business or into compliance with government {LIBERALS} mandates violating the churches doctrines and conscience. All part of the plan for the takeover and establishment of government as lord and master of all.
I'd like to see churches and private sector take education and health care back over or as much of it as they can support. Right now Liberals are using NPO granted status as a means of their agenda enforcement.
Well, “conservative” America has been carrying on like a herd of cats. That’s how eight GOP presidential wannabes bit the dust and lukewarm, weather-vane driven Mitt got ponied up only to lose to the worst US prez evah.
THEY AIN’T LISTENING TO GOD ANY MORE. GOD DOES NOT SPEAK WITH CONFUSION.
That’s how eight GOP presidential wannabes bit the dust
make that, wannabes who would have actually handed Barack Obama his hind end.
We don't need faggots/dykes in our churches, as they have chosen to violate God's and Nature's Laws.
Amen, and Amen
The GOP infrastructure changed near the time of 1989 and it wasn't for the better. Some can call it what they want but I believe post-Reagan the handlers, planners, and money holders all came to an agreement of sorts to a joint power and agenda agreement. I believe they feared another Reagan possibility where Establishment handlers were not in control. What we've witnessing since 1989 has been a brokered power consolidation of the federal government into the hands of an unknown oligarchy. Party meaning simply nothing anymore as far as DEM or GOP.
Remember a rouge DEM slipped passed the Democratic Party in Corkers last race. Corker should have been embarrassed his Democratic opponent was far more Conservative in platform than he was.
Because The Church can only serve one master. LBJ as a senator pushed through a bill to silence the churches political dissent in exchange for no taxesYou are wrong. The churches already had a tax exempt status. What LBJ did was slip in an amendment to the tax bill when very few were paying attention that made it illegal for entities receiving tax exempt statuses could not engage in politics.
The Federal Income Tax fundamentally altered the relationship between the American people and their government: Prior to the passage of the 16th Amendment, the people were the master of their government; after the passage of the 16th, the people became slaves to their government.
And the situation has only got worse since 1913. And it will continue to worsen as time marches on, until we replace the income tax with the FairTax and abolish the IRS!
That is well and good. Indeed, Church is a place for sinners.
HST, how many preachers preach against homosexuality”
And, how many homosexuals would attend a church wherein the preacher preached against homosexuality?
They try and take down our pastor will we stand up then?
Damn I wish I could do something besides write and pray.
Seems to , so nothing.
"Sorry, but you are dead wrong. Those are the exact people we need in the pews. At least in the pews of the churches that teach the truth."
Well...good luck. You want your kids exposed IN CHURCH to men kissing/hand-holding/etc., and trying to convert the Congregation to their Utopia Lifestyle, then go right ahead.
COUNSELING, YES.
Infiltrating Churches; NO!
Granting your hypothetical of exclusion of church-only marriages, any marriage not conducted by an agency of the state still may be recognized through common law indicia of marriage. So while it would be tedious to not have a blanket presumption in place, specific cases already in court for other reasons (child custody, etc) would still be able to establish common law marriage.
Government cannot be left out of marriage. Too many things involved like property, custody of children, etc...”
Government can’t be left out of divorce. Division of marital property and custody of children becomes an issue only if the marriage breaks up. Jesus taught that divorce is wrong. 1 Corinthians Chapter 7 verses 10 and 11. Government can be left out of marriage.
It’s time the churches stopped caring about their tax exempt status anyway and are free to teach the truth. The early church never worried about having to water down their doctrine over man made non profit status garbage.
