The U.S. Supreme Court today paved the way for same-sex couples to marry soon in California, effectively leaving intact a lower-court ruling that struck down the state's voter-approved ban on gay marriage.
In a ruling that assures further legal battles, the high court found that backers of Proposition 8 did not have the legal right to defend the voter-approved gay marriage ban in place of the governor and attorney general, who have refused to press appeals of a federal judge's 2010 ruling finding the law unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court ruling, which found it had no legal authority to decide the merits of a challenge to Proposition 8, sends the case back to that original decision -- and the only question now is how quickly same-sex couples can marry and whether that ruling will have immediate statewide effect.
The 5-4 ruling was written by Chief Justice John Roberts.

The Church can exercise its 1st amendment rights without tax exempt status.
Just like I do.
Throw the Wolves out of the pulpit and off the steps.
Matt 22:21
“Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
NIV
What was more important to the Man who said that - tax exemption or the Truth?
The body of Christ is manifested by the Truth - not by a blank on some IRS form.
Has Caesar not collected from the various contractors who built God's house? Has Caesar not collected enough through the vehicle and its fuel that took you to God's house? Has Caesar not collected through the utilities that are used to run God's house? Etc....
Why do you want to pave a new inroad for Caesar between you and the works of God's house?
Seems to me, the rendering's been done - over and over and over again and now, this belongs to God.
So, I will continue to post it as this site, and other efforts and articles I write or am involved with, as I have done here for the last 16 years until the owner of this site, Jim Robinson tells me to stop.
Most conservative poster here understand this and read other's articles and efforts and simply choose to either get involved or not and thus we all work together.
If you don't like that, does all a favor and either ignore my posts, or somehow learn to live with it.
Really, it's that simple.
The USA is definitely worth salvaging. It's the BEST place in the world. I've lived abroad for two years in Mexico and five years in the middle east.
Each time I came home "for good," I KISSED the ground!
Hey! I live in California.
Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door." Statue of Liberty
I'll take your tired, poor and huddled masses but keep YOUR OWN faglorinos, puleeze.
God can and will extend as well as withdraw His hand of protection, at will, based on the obedience or rebellion of his earthly creations.
I think many black and Hispanic voters, who supported Prop 8, voted for Jerry Brown and Kamala Harris in last election. Brown and Harris will run for reelection next year. I don't see them "punished" by those "minority" voters for Prop 8 going down...
[Why do you want to pave a new inroad for Caesar between you and the works of God’s house?]
LOL. You mean like the love of money?
NO SALE
There are plenty of ways to render to God what is His that don’t involve a state invention of abstract value.
These perverted folks will have to face consequences. There are ALWAYS consequences to sin and evil. ALWAYS.
I wouldn't want to be them when it comes time to face the music. I have my own faults, many, I know, but I DO know what evil is and I PREFER to live the straight and narrow.
Hell is eternal damnation. That word "eternal" is the kicker. Don't like the sound of it, so...straight and narrow, the ONLY way to fly. (Southwest Airlines)
That homosexual marriage train's last stop is hell. ETERNAL damnation--don't like the sound of that "eternal" part, so I will not even get on that train, thankew very much.
SUCH fools.
You shed any tonnage since 912, Bishop?
If not, you’ll be about as useful as a roll of wet toilet paper wearing magic underwear when your pot stirring helps the SHTF.
Jefferson’s declaration doesn’t need a Kolobian rewrite any more than it needs “Anonymouse” amendments from the EFF.
NO SALE, I’m not buying any of your crappy books or other work product.
Fine...keep alienating people, particularly those who should be your allies...it's bound to help you a lot [/sarcasm].
And thanks for the Christian example you are setting...or not setting as it is. You reveal more about yourself with each post.
Just the same, in whatever efforts you are involved with to help restore this Republic, or to try and bring others to Christ...God's speed in those activities.
Expand? I’m in favor of getting gov’t (Fed AND State) OUT of the marriage business; it’s got NO right nor authority to a Free people.
DOMA was, and is, yet another Fed. intrusion in what is outside the Fed. mandate to define/enforce...much as 95% of the current ‘Laws’ on the books.
You’re own admission is a such...social engineering per the tax code; above and beyond the 9th and 10th. Still, all, Unconstitutional. Glad to know you know me from Adam enough to cast the ‘net of speculation.
‘Bout the only thing I’d agree with is your statement that the Founding docs are on life support, and we are not ruled by an oligarchy.
Guess I should pinch my nose and vote foe the (R) in ‘14 too, eh? /s
>>Oh, I see...you’re a bigot.
Yes, I’m especially bigoted against FALLIBLE AND UNINSPIRED Kolobian Wolves who try to assume dominion over the faith of others and the AMERICAN Declaration of Independence.
NO SALE
No sale?
...uh, but no one is trying to sell you anything there, T. Getting involved in the restoration of our Republic is a good thing, and costs only your time and effort. That’s why I say, whatever you are doing to really try and do that, I applaud it, and I wish you the best in it.
But, your absolutely vitriolic reaction to the same type of efforts by others speaks volumes. There is nothing in that Declaration about any specific denomination or brand of religion, T...you are the only one making an issue of that.
It clearly states only that God in Heaven, the Creator, grants all of us those unalienable rights. Which is the truth. That whole effort is simply to point out the same types of conditions today (and worse) as what our founders faced.
Anyhow, ‘nuff said.
Is planet Kolob in your Heavenly future, Bishop?
I’m pretty sure Thomas Jefferson never mentioned it - and I think he’d be thundering with ETERNAL HOSTILITY if he knew some Mormon wolf was trying to recast the AMERICAN (AMERICAN, as opposed to what the Kolobians used to call the infidels) Declaration of Independence.
