WASHINGTON (AP) The Internal Revenue Service's screening of groups seeking tax-exempt status was broader and lasted longer than has been previously disclosed, the new head of the agency said Monday.
An internal IRS document obtained by The Associated Press said that besides "tea party," lists used by screeners to pick groups for close examination also included the terms "Israel," ''Progressive" and "Occupy." The document said an investigation into why specific terms were included was still underway.
In a conference call with reporters, Danny Werfel said that after becoming acting IRS chief last month, he discovered wide-ranging and improper terms on the lists and said screeners were still using them. He did not specify what terms were on the lists, but said he suspended the use of all such lists immediately.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
The IRS is STILL targeting conservatives. Count on it.
I don’t believe for a second that ‘progressives’ were targeted! More lies from the Zero Administration!!
. . . but no wrongful intention, they say. How does one engage in a massive targeting of conservative groups and say with a straight face there was no wrongful intent? It’s a wrongful practice on its face, and perpetrating the program necessarily required a wrongful intent? Tea party and other identifying names were intentionally selected for targeting, and these jokers say no wrongful intent? What planet are these bureaucrats from?
Have any of these “Occupy” and “Progressive” groups stepped forward yet?

That's encouraging.
That's encouraging.
It is bullstalin. Outright. Liberal groups were fasttracked.
At least one Obama-org was given RETROACTIVE status to clear up 2 years of contribution.
It was not a level playing field. It was designed to thwart conservative advertising and get out the vote efforts.
Uh-huh.
And why did it take so long for Zero's handlers (this includes the "news" media) to come up with that little nugget to help offset the damaging claim that they only targeted conservative sounding names.
Oh! I get it!
Maybe they did subject applications with liberal sounding names for closer scrutiny to make sure they were actually liberal and not conservative wolf-in-sheep-clothing types pretending to be liberal!.
Broad: IRS chief was inappropriate.
We've been parsing these people for too long. This one was easy...
I doubt that “progressive” groups were targeted - so far, the IRS has been unable to prove this - but if they were, this is only going to bring down the wrath of the left as well.
I understood from various credible sources that IRS screening broke federal laws. Is that correct?
In a conference call with reporters, Danny Werfel said that after becoming acting IRS chief last month, he discovered wide-ranging and improper terms on the lists and said screeners were still using them. He did not specify what terms were on the lists, but said he suspended the use of all such lists immediately.
Far too little, far too late, and none of it's the least bit credible, anyway.
Inappropriate is using your dessert fork on your entrée.
What the IRS did was ILLEGAL. They FIXED AN ELECTION.
Don’t believe it either, but now the “Word is Out There”, and that is all it takes for the lazy LSM to jump on the bandwagon that progressives were equally attacked.
Nothing to see here folks, the IRS is an equal opportunity targeter.
Whenever the Left is found to be corrupt, they and the media manage to proclaim that Both Sides do it; and then all is forgotten.
“Inappropriate”. Don’t you love the lefts’ facility with the language when describing their own lawbreaking?
Broadly screened? . . . maybe so . . . libtard groups for fast-tracking; conservative groups for obstructing and stonewalling.
“......said that besides “tea party,” lists used by screeners to pick groups for close examination also included the terms “Israel”, “Progressive” and “Occupy.”
“Progressives”, and “Occupy” I call BS on those. This new boss is same as the old boss. Just a lyin’ SOS for the party. No mores, no scruples, as Judy Holiday said in “Born Yesterday” “you ain’t got no couth” Werfel.
