The small Scandinavian nation said it would be the first nation in NATO to draft females into military service after decades of confining its conscription activities to men.
"We are sending a signal that, once again, Norway's thinking ahead when it comes to equality, Norway's foreign minister, Espen Barth Eide said in an interview Sunday, two days after the parliament voted overwhelmingly in favor of a new law mandating the drafting of women. About 10% of Norway's military is currently female, but the goal is to take the number to 20% by 2020.
Norway has long considered itself a forerunner in equality issues, enforcing quotas for female representation on corporate boards and offering generous paternity leave. Women make up about half of those holding political office.
Laila Gustavsen, a member of the Labor party and on the foreign policy and defense committee in Norwegian parliament, said the law sends the necessary message that "both men and women must have rights and duties" and that "the military has in many ways been the last part of society that has been dominated by men."

When you are looking for someone to defend your country, you have to stop worrying about equality and go for the best.
Women aint it.
The most shocking thing about this is the revelation that Norway has armed forces. Who knew?
Equality above all else. It seems that equality is considered the pinnacle of virtue now days. The highest good.
Talking to my peers, they just cannot understand that people are inherently unequal, and it is this inherent inequality which makes life so interesting — so vibrant.
I believe that’s why many oppose liberty outright. Liberty reveals the individual’s innate inequality, and that frightens them.
Equality before the law; yes.
But total equality? It is unnatural.
Very effective. Looking at that - I can see the Norwegians intend to defeat the enemy as they laugh themselves to death.

Considering that the only action the Norwegian forces see is as UN Peacekeepers in mostly muzzieland, the women might consider a weekend in Malmo, Sweden to get a reality check.
But hey, at least they got their men liberated from those oppressive macho urinals.
