President Obama is under fire for the price of the first family’s upcoming weeklong trip to Africa, which could cost taxpayers as much as $100 million at a time of federal budget cuts and furloughs.
The Obamas’ trip will take them to Senegal, Tanzania and South Africa from June 26 to July 3. The excursion will involve military cargo planes airlifting 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines, and three trucks to carry bulletproof glass panels to cover the windows where the family is set to stay.
One estimate of the cost has pegged the bill to U.S. taxpayers at somewhere between $60 million and $100 million.
A House lawmaker said rather than spend $100 million on a trip to Africa, the administration should instead fund public tours of the White House that were canceled under the “sequestration” budget cuts.
“For the cost of this trip to Africa, you could have 1,350 weeks of White House tours, which the White House has canceled indefinitely due to budget constraints,” Rep. George Holding, North Carolina Republican, said on the House floor Friday.
Mr. Holding said with the country more than $16 trillion in debt, the administration should not be spending so much money on an eight-day visit to Africa.

These people don’t want open hostilities even though the democrats are openly hostile and doing things that beg a real, strong response. To the point of open ideological warfare and zero compromise.
But none of our guys believe in what they believe enough, and too many of them are gushy RINOs and GOP-elites who aren’t that all unhappy in how things are going.
That picture was when Michelle and friends and family went to Africa..I think it was in 2011 when they went..ever time I see this picture it reminds me of the Hillbillies.. The Clampets had nothing until they struck oil..

We should not begrudge Obam-o his desire to visit his fatherland.
The problem isn’t that it’s expensive for the President to travel - It is, and I don’t have a problem with that.
My question is the timing of the trip. Why now? While we’re seeing more examples of government excesses on “trips,” and remember the sequestor? What about that?

Don’t think so. He already has a $30 million estate waiting for him in Hawaii, after he leaves office.
Does Barack Obama’s mother-in-law stay in the White House by her lonesome when Barry goes globetrotting or does she get to tag along?
Always good to have some non-US options for when the SHTF in America. I guess being in Hawaii leaves him with a “protective moat” from the problems of the mainland.

Clarification: I heard that the second plane was to fly to Belfast today. Not sure about the Africa trip.
