Iran to ‘deploy 4,000-strong force’ to Syria as US military set to stay in Jordan

Iran will deploy 4,000 Revolutionary Guards to Syria to bolster Damascus against a mostly Sunni-led insurgency, media reported. Meanwhile, US F-16s and Patriots will stay in Jordan – speculatively, to help establish a no-fly zone to aid Syrian rebels.

The deployment of the first several-thousand strong military contingent was reported by The Independent on Sunday who quoted Iranian sources tied to the state’s security apparatus. The sources said the move signals Iran’s intention to drastically step up its efforts to preserve the government of President Bashar Assad.

The Islamic Republic’s heightened military commitment could reportedly extend to the opening up of a new “Syrian” front on the Golan Heights against Israel.

Golan Heights have recently become a source of new instability with increasing cross-border fire and Austria withdrawing its peacekeepers from the buffer area after a checking point became the spot of military dispute between and Assad's and opposition's forces.

This stirred concern in the UN with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon warning the fragile state of no-war between Tel-Aviv and Damascus is at risk.

Great work Emperor Zero and Hillary the Great. We have our enemies all aligned against us. Lebanon/Syria/Iraq/Iran might as well be considered one solid block now. Or do we call them axis again this time. They only have Russia and China supporting them, so the EU/DC brain trust does not think the conflict will last very long.

BHO will not launch anything of the kind.

As our “leader from behind”, commander sit and wait in chief, the President, is merely reassuring one of the few allies left (thanks to his foolish policies) in the Middle East that we are kind of there for him (King Abdullah of Jordan).

This is a show of weak force on the border. While the US flexes it's pinky muscle and sits on the sidelines, the Russians, Iranians North Koreans and a multitude of Arab radicals Jihadists are assuring that Assad stay in power.

They are doing things on the ground, creating facts while the White House is creating scripts, sound bytes and photo-ops.

Everybody knows that Obama does not have the desire or will to even swat a fly. The enemies of the West are laughing their arses off...

Not sure about that theory. I’m certain by Friday a few battles will have already erupted. Then Mr. Nobel Peace Prize Winner Obummer will be declaring war on Syria with GOPers cheering him on.

Won't happen. Putin will smack him silly.
People should remember when Putin sent planes and troops to stop clinton from destroying and taking over what was left of Yugoslavia. Met the US at the airfield and said this far and no farther. clinton backed down.

Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.

But Barry is dummer than Clinton. He might think that war against Putin could boost his job approval ratings.

Beg to differ with you on this issue.

Obama would rather cut back on his steady diet of Kobe beef in the WH than go to war over any issue at any place on the globe.

He is, in effect, “Mr. Peace”, “Mr. Peace Prize”, “Mr. Cool Celebrity”, “Mr. All people should come together Kumbaya” President.

He cannot afford to tarnish his well polished image by getting into a shooting war now.

Our adversaries all over the planet know this and that is why US Power Projection is now “Soft Power” or in reality Paper Tiger Power.

This is why our diplomats can be murdered at will, our power bases in the Middle East being reduced everyday and our respect in the world now standing at zero.

I am not advocating intentionally getting into another war but war is coming and we are about as prepared for it as we were on December 6th 1941.

War will come because a nuclear armed Iran wills it and we are in a reactive state only.

Forward USN Fleet deployments measure our commitments. Last I saw, all our aircraft carriers were home ported and docked to save money.

POS POTUS will most likely waste more of our heros on John Fruckface Kerry’s whimsys. “Like Ghenghis Kahn.”

Sounds interesting. Barry’s a fool. He could have at least sent one aircraft carrier to the Middle East area to make it look like he’s gonna fight.

The source of this agitprop is Russia Today, and there have been at least two earlier topics about it.

You realize that John Kerry made his entry into public life by convincing the electorate of my home state that he participated in mass murder, but did not find the experience edifying.

There is a saying in the Middle East which holds true.
“The enemy of my enemy is my friend...”

You have a choice in terms of support:

1) Secularist, dictatorial, cruel, bloody rulers who kill everything and everybody in sight.
2) Religious, dictatorial, cruel, bloody rulers who kill everything and everybody in sight.

A good example of this process is what happened in the Gaza strip, 1992-present).

The PLO (FATAH branch - Arafart) was invited in to rule there in 1992-93 Oslo “Peace” Accords.
The PLO is a secular, was communist or socialist revolutionary group of mass murderers who promised Clinton and Rabin that they would behave...just give me land.

Once in a while Arafart gave many different groups (both secular and religious including HAMAS) a free hand at launching Kassam missiles into Israeli civilian population centers. When asked to stop, Arafart would say, “It's not my FATAH people, it's other groups (like HAMAS) that I am having a hard time controlling send me more guns, money and training.

Eventually the religious HAMAS movement won an election in Gaza and violently ejected the secular PLO (throwing some of them alive off rooftops).

Now HAMAS is in power there, ruling with an iron fist, once in a while missiles are fired into Israeli population centers. When asked why, they reply, “...it's not us, it is the [more extreme] Salafists. It's not our people...

So, eventually once HAMAS is toppled and the Salafists take over and the eventual missiles fired from Gaza land in Israeli towns and villages, they will be asked, “Salafists, what's going on”? They will then reply, “It's not us, it's the blah-blah-blahs.

So, who ever you support in the Middle East, except old reliable and consistent Israel, you lose. The US put all it's resources into one Arab country after another (including Iran which is Persian). They all eventually collapsed leaving the US with fewer and fewer options. This then begs the question, Why keep investing in these scumbags, give Israel (which has little oil but lots of natural gas now) a free hand to finally win.

Russian troops, as many as 15,000, have been in Syria for more than a year. Russia has at least one military base there.

The introduction of Hezbollah and Iranian troops means that reserves are committed. That is, the Syrian Army is degraded to the point of ineffectiveness.

There is the constant mention of establishing a no fly zone. That is a press template based on it’s fantastic military knowledge learned last time. One wonders if there is even an actual need for such coverage. There are no rports of ongoing danger from the air. The Syrian Air force doesn’t seem to be of much actual use recently.

The rebels control a major air base

Assad is no longer in total control if foreign troops (Iran) are present. The price for their purchase is bound to be steep.

Many of the Palestinian terror groups in the 1950’s through to the present day were based on radical Socialist dogma combined with their unique twist of Sunni whatever religious practice.

The Pan-Arabic movement, like Atta -Turk’s secular combination and the attempt to unite Nasser's Egypt with Assad's Syria and many other failed attempt to unify the Arab world under the Soviet-Socialist models all failed. You are correct, after the PLO moved into southern Lebanon, they killed Christians, used churches as latrines and generally terrorized Druze, Christian and other groups in Lebanon. In Damour, Tyre, Sidon, Beirut and other cities, the secular PLO committed many atrocities. People forget that Israel (via her “Good Fence” policy) helped thousands of Christians and set up the SLA (South Lebanese (Christian) Army to fight the PLO and later, Hizbollah. That attempt fail;ed too.
You hit the nail on the head regarding our concept that people over there (except the Israelis) think like us as free, Democratic, Liberal, free-market economy Westerners who want freedom. That is what I never understand. How intelligent, trained American diplomats and politicians get it wrong every time. These Arab Muslims and Persians DO NOT HAVE THE MINDSET that we have. They do not yearn for peace, stablity and democracy. They yearn for a warm Goat's A**, a Hookah pipe and a rifle. Go learn their language and culture and then you will not be naive fool.

The Muslim Arabs are not yet a mature people ready to join the human race and try to live in harmony. They are certainly not mature enough to handle peace and statecraft. They prove this everyday.

BB Netanyahu says all the time, “We live in a tough neighborhood”. Some folks think this is rhetoric but it is true and in order to survive, I have no problem letting the Israelis run amok every now and then with preemptive strikes - it's the only way they will survive.

America was naive in 1941. It believed in Appeasement until Pearl Harbor. Why do we always have to set ourselves up for another Pearl Harbor? Why can't we call a spade a spade and nip the problem in the bud?
