Cheney says NSA monitoring could have prevented 9/11
NBC News ^ | June 16, 2013 | Michael O'Brien

The United States might have been able to prevent the deadly Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington had controversial National Security Agency surveillance practices been in place at the time, former Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday.

The former No. 2 in the Bush administration defended the NSA's ability to monitor phone and email data, and labeled as a "traitor" the analyst who has admitted to having leaked details about the classified program.

No doubt for the same reason the Muslims never attacked Moscow or Berlin from Nazi Germany.

The storage of this information isn’t so bad, it’s the corruption disclosure of the information for political purposes. Cheney is not considering that this genie can’t be put back in the bottle. Free men need to be unencumbered to protect their freedom.

The coup is now complete.

Not taking American tax payers money and giving it to the middle east would have stopped 9-11 as well.

This is nothing.

Google, the bank and the local grocer do this stuff everyday.

Glady's Kravitz has had her eye on you for ages.

So long as the Stazi does not whisk us away in the night never to be seen again, the Republic stands.

Well, except for blackmailing judges in important cases.

And blackmailing prosecutors in important cases.

And the whole miasma of insider trading and petty political blackmail of legislators.

Other than that, I’m sure it’s all just fine!

They why didn’t it prevent Boston?

Targeting foriegn nationals paying cash for one way airline tickets would have stopped 9/11. Phone tapping millions indescriminatingly is a giant waste of time.

It could have also prevented the Boston bombing but evidently they aren’t monitoring calls to prevent terror are they? Even when two countries informed us those guys were trouble, still nothing happened. In fact the government seems to be more concerned about harassing the right than anything else which tells me the government is more focused on creating a fascist state under our first admitted foreign born twice unconstitutionally elected communist POTUS..

Several warnings from the Russians could not be put together with info from the NSA.

Did the Russians notify the Bush administration or the Soetoro administration in March and September of 2011?

Oh Dick Cheney! I used to like you, but that bad heart must have kept you out of the loop. According to this NOVA report, NSA was in effect and had all the information before the 911 attack to prevent it, but they never shared that information with the CIA or FBI

Is any of that news?
It has been so since before the US was founded.

The Constitution does not provide Utopia, it just gives us a better shot at fighting Gov abuse.

There is no such thing as benign GOVERNANCE.
By definition we subscribe at some level to be governed.

The genius of the constitution is that it places the power with the PEOPLE.
The fly in the ointment is that the People are often incapable of agreeing what is for dinner, let alone serious matters.

It is all a balancing act.
Freedom is in fact, a very messy thing.

no, someone reporting in that a bunch of people were taking jet flying training classes and didn’t’care about learning how to land, to agencies that would have taken this seriously, might have stopped 9/11.

Somebody needs to take a long hard look at the contractors as well. Booz Allen (the company Snowden worked for) made nearly $6 billion off taxpayers last year. How many Chinese nationals work for them. Why no conflict of interest with the fact that James Clapper was a Booz Allen executive, and what is his stock worth?

We paid defense contractors nearly a half trillion dollars last year and its time for a long hard look at them.

Rilly? Why didn't multiple flight schools reporting muslims studying how to fly, but not how to land stop 9/11?

I really never expected to see Dick Cheney thrown under the bus here on FR particularly when he voices an opinion that is in direct opposition to one taken by Michael Moore.

I guess there is a first time for everything.

We have finally reached the position, apparently, that no politician currently or even formerly in office is trustworthy in any sense.

I happen to disagree with that position. There may not be many but there are a few and when they go under the bus, lose our support and lose their next election they will be replaced by those who have a (D) after their name and are much, much worse.

I find it curious that a lot of the folks that are outraged over the NSA are the same folks that DEMAND the Gov build a fence on their neighbors ranch on the border, with machine gun nests, and Military asking for papers.

And if they get it they will complain that the cost should be placed on someone else.

Garden-variety border enforcement could have prevented 9/11, too - but where’s the benefit for the State in that?
