Just in case you want more Obama in your life AT&T is loading iPhones with emergency alerts from Barack Obama That you cant switch off.
AT&T has begun rolling out Wireless Emergency Alerts updates for iPhone 4S and 5, so you wont be the last folks to know if the entire northern hemisphere is about to be covered in ice à la Day After Tomorrow.
Youll receive a notification from the carrier when your update is ready, but only if youre using iOS 6.1 or higher.
Once installed, AMBER and Emergency alerts are automatically sent to your phone unless you switch them off via Settings. However, should you be tired of Obama, just know that theres no way to switch off Presidential alerts.
So now Barack can track your calls and send you messages, too.
I'm with you. I went from a smartphone to a dumb cell phone a year ago. I still txt in extreme moderation, but I wish that people would refrain from texting me in most situations. I do not be plugged-in and have total knowledge of everyone's current status ... that even applies to my wife. For instance, I really do not need to know when she is leaving one place to another.
I like the old days. You just simply told someone that you'd be somewhere at a particular time and you showed up on time. Then the time you spent with people was not interrupted by electronics.
Twenty years ago I'd go hunting or fishing with a group of friends and we would pick a location to meet. The location often times were grid coordinates on a topo map. We would set a time to meet on only rarely was anyone late. No cell phones, no GPS and no outside world.
The Luddites may be the only ones that will have me due to my status as a card-carrying agnostic. Then again, as Groucho once said, I wouldn’t want to be a member of any group that would accept me.
Ok, how do you do that?
If you belong to the Inner Party, you can switch-off Imam Obama’s five-times-a-day calls to the faithful.
“We have that privilege.” O’Brien
Really?
You’re right: I’ve noticed that people don’t make simple plans any more. It’s all vague multi-calls: I’ll call you when I leave, where are you, I’m on my way, where shall we meet, I’m running a little late, etc, etc.
Kind of like the vague, insecure voice patterns that I hear more and more often.
Now I know I’m keeping my flip phone....
And fly too. I sat next to a nice Mennonite couple a few years back.
I have a dumb phone,.I wanted a smart phone just for the camera..what about an Ipad? Its not on all the time.
My message on the dumb phone if I am on the phone and someone else calls through says,”I am on the phone right now with someone more important than you.”( not kidding...I never switch over ..so rude!)
Gee, my phone just beeped. I was afraid it was his excellency calling to let me know he was having a good time visiting his ancestors in Ireland before the G-8. Actually it was my wife returning from church. I filled her in about this and she told me not to tell her things like that while driving.
I despise the POS imposter american we have.
Two Minutes of Hate...now in a convenient mobile app!
I’m 63. I remember ‘getting connected’ with mobile phones in the late 80s. Before that, my wife and I and family communicated as needed, and we ‘planned’. Makes you think about what you plan to do with your life that day.
You make adjustments. You think about your daily plans and you communicate them with your loved ones. Just like I used to do. These damned phones are an anchor, and most of the convenient connection is for useless crap. And, they cost an assload...mine is $150 per month. I just don’t damn need it like my employer used to pay for.
Think about it. You and your lovey will have to talk to each other in the morning (tell them what you plan on) and at night (tell them what you did, etc.). Not just some damned text that says “K” or “Bye” or whatever.
I’m not saying it ain’t gonna be hard, but hell, life is much harder these days, and I could sure use a break from the latest Drudge or FR post that reminds me our country is dying.
Also in the work place, which can extend to email "conversations" that lead to "conference calls" that people do not listen, but are texting and not paying attention, that lead to "meetings" where people do not listen since they are addicted to their crack berries. I am not saying that technology is bad, I work in IT after all, but there is a terrible misuse of technology.
Verizon already does this.
I take some pride in having learned that from your post, and not through other means. Means I have some disconnection from pop culture.
I believe in communication also, planning ahead...
When they cut us off completely - REMEMBER all of us
should meet at our local LIBRARY - we all can’t get
to D.C. so we need our local gathering places.
See ya there - it won’t be long.
Next: The “Time to BOHICA” software.
