Nation Should Welcome Darkening Demographic
The National Memo ^ | June 15th, 2013 12:00 am | Cynthia Tucker

Posted on 06/15/2013 1:00:23 AM PDT by Olog-hai

Norman Rockwell is dead. So is his America.

If you find that declaration sad, or possibly slanderous, you probably have fond memories of “the way we were” during a supposedly kinder and gentler time before the civil rights movement, women’s lib and cellphones. If you don’t shed tears over that America, you may have grown up as I did—oppressed by the strictures of a social and political system that didn’t show much respect to those who were not white male Christians.

Either way, the overwhelmingly white nation that Rockwell depicted in his sentimental paintings is gone. (I intend no disrespect to Rockwell, whose portrait of 6-year-old Ruby Bridges integrating a New Orleans school stands out in civil rights iconography.) Just last week, new data from the U.S. Census Bureau confirmed a trend long in evidence: The nation continues, inexorably, to grow darker. For the year ending July 1, 2012, deaths among non-Hispanic whites exceeded births, the Census Bureau reported. The majority of births in this country are now to blacks, Asians and Latinas.

That trend helps to explain the discomfort among older conservative voters with immigration, which has been the driver of the nation’s increasing diversity. They see the country in which they grew up, in which they held the political, social and economic power, slipping away, becoming a place with which they are unfamiliar. Their anxiety boils down to a misplaced fear that they will be strangers in their own land. …

Another progressive who leaves the word “illegal” out of in front of the word “immigration”. Conservatives have a problem with dishonest arguments, not legitimate immigration. When she like we are hip-deep in Hezbollah attacks thanks to members of same that crossed in freely from Mexico, what will she say then? And to hell with the traditional family too, yes? the only bulwark of stability for a nation?
The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low. / He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail. / Moreover all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee: / And they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.
— Deuteronomy 28:43-46
No misplaced fears, and a completely misidentified and dishonest identification of the concerns of conservatives.

Speak for yourself, legal or illegal, immigration needs to stop and we should never have allowed the democrats to change the law in 1965.

For a nation to deliberately replace itself with foreigners is insane.

The election of JFK killed the nation.

I am not American but from what I know of most people here: - no-one gives a rats arse what color your skin may be it’s actually what sort of person you are that matters. The American dream is certainly something to aspire to but even more so are American Morals, American’s sense of duty and honor.

You shouldn’t be able to have one without qualifying with the other.

America, like any other nation, should be able to use it’s sovereignty to determine what character of individual they allow in their borders!

What difference did it make to change the law if the problem is due to it being flouted? If there are problems as a result of the law, then that’s one thing, but they arise from disobedience to it and non-enforcement against said disobedience.

By saying “deliberately replace itself with foreigners” implies that such a thing is being done via a legal process. But we’re living in a time when the federal government is attacking those that want to enforce the existing federal laws on the books. This is far different to whatever the Hart-Celler act did in its time. (Do you have a problem with the McCarran-Walter Act as well?)

So many problems with this article. I could pick almost any sentence at random and reveal a subtle lie or fallacious construct.

Example:

>>Japan’s long-running economic malaise has several causes,
>>but its aging population — exacerbated by its hostility to
>>immigrants — is surely one of them.

“is surely one of them” = not one of them, otherwise she could cite a study or adduce some evidence.

I don’t see that Japan was hostile to my first cousin (a computer tech who worked over there for a long time), who married a Japanese woman.

For one thing, there aren’t enough younger workers to support all the retirees. Japan’s long-running economic malaise has several causes, but its aging population — exacerbated by its hostility to immigrants — is surely one of them.

Whatever the long-term problems with our Social Security and Medicare programs, they’d be far worse without the Latinos, Asians and Africans who have revitalized rundown neighborhoods, invigorated popular culture and shared in the American Dream. As Brookings Institution demographer William Frey told The New York Times, the new census figures make “more vivid than ever the fact that we will be reliant on younger minorities and immigrants for our future demographic and economic growth.”

Author Cynthia Tucker, a shining example of affirmative action on PBS, is frankly too stupid to have come up with this argument on her own. The fact that Jeb Bush is quoted on CNN as making similar arguments compels the conclusion that we are now witnessing a multisided propaganda effort from the left in support of amnesty.

The delusion of supporting a failed social security system which is about to crater because it is essentially a Ponzi scheme with more new suckers to invest in the scheme is a legislatively defined federal and state crime if done in the private sphere. The fact that the new suckers will not be able to pay their way because they are linguistically handicapped, educationally lacking, culturally strange, and often antagonistic to capitalism, means that the reprieve sought to be had from introducing these people into the system will be even shorter lived.

Their incorporation into the welfare system has been documented by the Heritage Foundation to be a gross drain on the system's capital. If our welfare system were subjected to the same accounting principles conducted by state commissioners of insurance to which every insurance company must submit, our politicians would be indicted.

Diversity is not our strength anymore than it has been the strength of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. I predict that diversity will prove to be our Achilles' heel and Japan's homogeneity will ultimately prove their salvation.

I am not American but from what I know of most people here: - no-one gives a rats arse what color your skin may be it’s actually what sort of person you are that matters.

I don't care what color the skin of an immigrant is. Starting off with entering the country legally, respecting our laws is a good start--whereas starting here by violating our law is not. The latter can be sent home, imho, if our government would only enforce its own laws.

That said, knowing/learning the language our founding documents were written in is a plus; after all, it is tough to understand America without knowing how it is supposed to work, and deviation from that plan is what is causing this nation tremendous harm.

Certainly, coming here for 'freebies' the Federal Government has no Constitutional authority to hand out isn't an American dream, it is a combination of the universal traits of sloth and greed, a combination antithetical to the ideal of carving out a niche--or even prosperity--through ingenuity and hard work.

The latter built this nation, not slackers who aspire to feed at the public trough, regardless of whether they are Senators or bums.

The election of JFK killed the nation.

Johnny Kennedy bought into the whole "Before the Irish Were White" fable of the 19th century liberals and progressives. The whole Kennedy Klan resented that the Founding Fathers were white and overwhelmingly non-Catholic. His hatred for the courageous men who made America led him to push for open immigration.

In contrast, a truly great president, one who unlike Kennedy didn't steal an election, Calvin Coolidge stated these truths about immigration:

American institutions rest solely on good citizenship. They were created by people who had a background of self-government. New arrivals should be limited to our capacity to absorb them into the ranks of good citizenship. America must be kept American. For this purpose it is necessary to continue a policy of restricted immigration. It would be well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens.

Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America.

Need I add that President Ronald Reagan greatly admired President Coolidge. I doubt that Johnny Kennedy held President Coolidge in the same high regard.

Immigration law wasn’t being ignored until the law changed making it impossible to deal with the wave of masses and string immigration and all the multiculturalism and so on, once , it became just a mess of the worlds 2nd and 3rd world populations there was just cohesion of community left, and the rules evaporated.

You cannot imagine America of 1965, I can’t imagine why a nation would do this to themselves, now we are just a mess of people trying to make a buck and get back to our private little nest, the days of community and unlocked doors, of keeping the keys in the car all the time, are gone.

This constant flow of new people gave the left a chance to constantly have new voters who didn’t know or care about America and what it stood for, they vote for what serves them today, and for what makes practical sense to their perspective of coming from a land and culture that could never understand 1776 and the growth of Western civilization and freedom and the individual.

It is just a place to work and make money now, every man for himself, Blade Runner.

As long as Japan does not start importing foreigners by the tens of millions, then they will remain Japan, economic problems can be solved or survived and adjusted to, but once you cease to be Japan, then that is permanent.

That low-life thug, Ted Kennedy, promised that NONE of these problems would ever occur when he championed that vile "Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965", stating:

...our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. Under the proposed bill, the present level of immigration remains substantially the same.... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset.... Contrary to the charges in some quarters, the act will not inundate America with immigrants from any one country or area...

That 1965 act had this breakdown by party: 74% of Democrats and 85% of Republicans voted for passage of this bill. So much the 'R' next to the name equating to Conservatism. In fact, it was largely Southern Democrats who voted against this travesty foisted on America by the Kennedy Klan.

No fan of old Teddy, here. But look at when the bill was passed -1965. Around the time that the "pill" became popular. If the Americans already here had continued to procreate as in the past, we could have better absorbed newcomers and mentored them in what it meant to be American. But we didn't.

The things about the "Rockwell era" we miss are that people pretty much conformed to Judeo-Christian morals regardless of whiteness or brownness, a strong work ethic, few illegitimate children, pride in independence. You left your doors unlocked, kids played outside without needing security details, graffiti didn't mar buildings/fences/signs. In school the worst offense students committed was chewing gum in class. Yeah, I miss those days.

Tucker, this country isn’t all about “white males vs. colored people” no matter how much you personally benefit from believing it and making others believe it.

You are a race-baiting fool for believing that the “problem” so many Americans have with unchecked immigration and an out-of-control baby-making welfare state has anything to do with “losing control of power.”

Bitch, if you ever lived as I did in a neighborhood where you weren’t sure from night to night whether there would be another shooting on your street (just between blocks,) whether another kid would die, whether the crack-addict babysitter across the street would knock on your door again asking for booze, whether your car would be broken into again, whether you’d again find needles and broken crackpipes in your back “yard,” whether you’d once again have to fend off a mugger, or defend some asian kids from vicious street thugs...

You’d know damned well none of this crap is about “white power.”

This woman is a very smug racial triumphalist.

I wonder how she will feel when blacks are largely displaced or forced out by incoming Latinos. If one looks at Los Angeles neighborhoods, you can see what will happen to them.

The America of my youth, whatever its faults, was far superior to the America of today.

The demand for socialism is driven by population density. As the USSR population density declined they lost their communism. Today Russia has a 13% flat and most people do not fill out a single tax form. Because Japan is a high population density island they have a ways to go but they are becoming more conservative. The USA would become more conservative rather than socialist if we secured our borders. The Democrats, not having many children, saw this coming and worked to flood America with foreigners, particularly into the high population density cities. Cities turn any demographic into Democrat voters. The argument for having foreigners as a substitute for children is we need replacement workers to pay into social security to keep the Ponzi scheme going, and it would help if these workers weren't too bright. However we are on the cusp of the robotics age and will not need many low IQ workers in the near future. The stupid party has lost the battle, but hasn't necessary lost the war yet. A plague, virus, or WMD attack could wipe out the major Democrat nests at any time.

Either way, the overwhelmingly white nation that Rockwell depicted in his sentimental paintings is gone. This because of a rat political agenda that trumps the people and a soveriegn nation. Thank you goes out to the kennedys for starters right on up to the despicable bastrdds we see now. It,s not about black or white it’s about votes
