A U.S. Internal Revenue Service manager, who described himself as a conservative Republican, told congressional investigators that he and a local colleague decided to give conservative groups the extra scrutiny that has prompted weeks of political controversy.
In an official interview transcript released on Sunday by Democratic Representative Elijah Cummings, the manager said he and an underling set aside "Tea Party" and "patriot" groups that had applied for tax-exempt status because the organizations appeared to pose a new precedent that could affect future IRS filings.
Cummings, top Democrat on the House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee conducting the probe, told CNN's "State of the Union" program that the manager's comments provided evidence that politics was not behind IRS actions that have fueled a month-long furor in Washington.
"He is a conservative Republican working for the IRS. I think this interview and these statements go a long way toward showing that the White House was not involved in this," Cummings told CNN's "State of the Union" program.

We can hope not this time, but history tells us the Dumb Party is now watching the laser pointer buzzing around the ceiling courtesy of President Jarrett
“They were treated in a consistent way.
And, of course, this new “revelation” does nothing to address the fact that confidential conservative donor lists were disclosed to left-wing groups.
Did the “conservative Republican” agree to fall on his sword for those felonies, too? I seriously doubt it.
I suspect this “conservative Republican IRS agent” is a figment of Mr. Cummings’ age-addled mind.
And Benghazi was due to a video that no one saw./s
They know were not that stupid. And they don't care. This will give the MSM enough to feed to the low-info voters. They will swallow it.
Headline is interesting too:
“Republican IRS agent says Cincinnati began ‘Tea Party’ inquiries”
DECEPTIVE. The proper headline would be:
“Leading Democrat Claims Republican IRS agent says Cincinnati began ‘Tea Party’ inquiries”
Reuters DOES NOT claim to know his name. How could they check out the story? Why did the run with their headline? Of course the answer is OBVIOUS, but it also shows just how evil the media is now.
And what are the names of the public servants who “began the TEA Party inquiries”? Conservative inquiring minds want to know.
have him testify under oath
And close to retirement? Likes oak and mountain cabins? Fall guy!
He has no reason to lie right? It's not like he's involved in the IRS targeting or anything, Right?
Cummings has an IQ of around 50.
..OK...2
More likely, A large staff of DNC brainstormers came up with this in an 'emergency' meeting Saturday night.
How generous of you. :=)
Darrell Issa tweets this afternoon:
“Cummings extreme & reckless assertions signal that his true motivation is stopping oversight & he has no genuine interest in exposing truth”
I posted when this broke that the use of tea-party as a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) could be easily explained, but the questions are what are the real problem and represent the purposeful harassment of conservatives.
Cummings is a Democrat flack - his job is to contain the problem with the Cinn. Office and keep it away from the White house. What did you expect?
Don’t know if Carter Hull is the one who “thought up the use of invasive questions” but I wish the Republicans would use the phrase “Follow the Questions!”
What BS! What conservative Republican would admit to having taking it upon himself to target conservatives (Tea Party, Constitution supporting, etc.) in this kind of way?
Pure BS!
Sounds “severely conservative” to me...
