NSA Leaker Comes Forward: ‘I Know I Have Done Nothing Wrong’
The Blaze ^ | 6-9-2013 | Madeleine Morgenstern

Posted on 06/09/2013 12:16:55 PM PDT by sheikdetailfeather

A 29-year-old former CIA worker and current defense contractor employee has come forward as the source of the National Security Agency leaks to The Guardian newspaper:

The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell.

The Guardian, after several days of interviews, is revealing his identity at his request. From the moment he decided to disclose numerous top-secret documents to the public, he was determined not to opt for the protection of anonymity. “I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong,” he said.

Snowden will go down in history as one of America’s most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the world’s most secretive organisations – the NSA.

In a note accompanying the first set of documents he provided, he wrote: “I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions,” but “I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant.”

you tell me. you're the expert in those matters. this guy took an oath ~ same oath many others of us have taken ~ and he tossed it away like a used condom.

he's a liar and a thief and you can't make me respect him, or those who speak highly of him.

He took an oath to protect the Constitution and the country, and not to protect Obama. This guy is no Assange (who was willing to wreck havoc simply for his own glory)... he choose the correct path when it became apparent that his oath was at odds with his leaders.

There is no end to the blackmail which would be possible....get rich obtaining insider information, tap judges, lawyers, doctors, legislators....

...and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. (Revelation 13:17)

And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name. (Revelation 14:11)

Traitor or Patriot? An interesting question to say the least. Already on this thread I have seen cogent thoughts regarding each perspective.

Which is the higher calling? The keeping of ones oath regardless of the consequences or breaking ones oath in order to uncover traitorous/criminal behavior by ones own government (not to mention the guilt by omission of the media not covering stories which show criminal or unethical behavior by the government due to their political affiliation)? Is it any wonder he went to the press in a different country than the USA? I think not.

It took great courage for him to do what he did. But as far as Traitor or Patriot, the jury is still out, and in the end, it will be seen differently by everyone based on their own belief system. I’m not sure how to read this in absolute terms, and I do believe in absolutes.

He has most assuredly arranged to make many, many more things come out in the case that he is assassinated - or imprisoned.

He’s former NSA. He’ll have done that.

All that was decided at Nuremberg. There is no requirement to follow orders that are illegal.

“Working there a long time taught me the government works within the framework of the Constitution”

Obama is the government.
Rangel is the government.
Fienstein is the government.
Reid is the government.

“Governments” are made up of people. People are greedy lying SOBs half the time.

I was once ordered to come up with a plan to circumvent a treaty our government was putting in place with one of our enemies.

I’m just creeped out that they can listen on conversations even if you’re just in the same ROOM with a phone.

Creeeepy.

Stalkerish. If a private citizen did that you could get an order of protection.

Even IF this database made us safer from ‘terrorists’, it most certainly puts us in danger from the GOVERNMENT. It’s difficult to have a police state withOUT one of these sorts of databases. With one it’s a sure thing, it’s only a matter of time. Human nature being fallen and all that.

In England the elected members of the ruling party ARE THE GOVERNMENT. In the United States that’s not true. So, keeping the discussion inside the bounds of American English it’s safe to say ‘the government operates inside the bounds set by the Constitution’.

As a 19 yr old member of the air force I was given access to many things which would surprise most people. Surprised the heck outta me at the time.

It’s almost as if they WANT things and information to walk out the front door.

Things that make you go Hmmm. That and H1B visa holders working IT jobs in these facilities. More ‘great ideas!’.

“So, keeping the discussion inside the bounds of American English it’s safe to say ‘the government operates inside the bounds set by the Constitution’.”

But it doesn’t. We have ample proof of that over the past 20 years with it accelerating the last 4.

The govt does what is in the govts best interest. Some people in the govt are patriots, some are lazy and just cashing the check, others are seeking to use the govts power to enrich themselves.

Oh yeah. Without a doubt.

This database goes a long way to show the elites who, exactly, stands in their way for that too.

That's raw copy from Hassan himself! It is inconceivable that the Post with a dozen reporters working the story out there didn't know about that. The fact you didn't know that means what?

Because you imagine you know something does not make it a fact.

I volunteered at Walter Reed for 6 years starting in 2005 and was there every week with a group of FReepers dedicated to Walter Reed and who, as a group and as individuals, paid particular attention to the damaged-plaster hoo-hah, the reporters involved, and our actual acquaintance with some of the people who testified in Congress, as well as the Hassan story and all it involved. And until you can provide some proof or citation of your claims, you can stop spinning a crap soufflé.

Now it's your turn to trot out your claim of how your ex-wife's brother-in-law's neighbor's friend-of-a-friend was one of Hassan's patients, and stayed in the plaster-damaged room, and was one of his very best friends, and had his computer password, and, and, and...

Good point, but that was in the context of war. Some would say this is ideological warfare. Others not. A fine point I must consider none the less.
