Chauncey Wright went looking for a job and got federally indicted instead. That's the way he put it Friday after being sentenced to six months of house arrest and four years' probation for his involvement in an undercover sting being run by the ATF.
ATF agents hired Wright who has brain damage, an IQ of 54 and functions at the level of a kindergartner to work last year for their fake storefront in Riverwest. They met him outside of a Walmart and offered him a job promoting Fearless Distributing, spreading the word that the store was looking for people willing to sell guns and drugs.
Wright, 28, rode his bike all over the city, from the lakefront to Midtown and down to the south side passing out fliers marketing Fearless and helping set up deals.
Agents paid him with cigarettes, shoes and a little cash. And when they shut down their sting, they referred him for criminal charges on gun and drug counts.
Wright said he had no idea the store was a sham and that its workers were federal agents.

Why aren’t the names of the agents, and their supervisors published in the article?
The public really needs to know what fine upstanding people are out there working in their best interests.
This way these people can be congratulated by their friends and neighbors, when ever they go out in public, for being such top notch public servants.
This case shows what happened in Waco was just a fluke, these guys really are representative of the best government workers can be.
Operation Slow & Miffed
I hope this story gets wide national attention, and like others on the thread, I hope Chauncey gets a bulldog attorney who absolutely shreds these jerks.
I remember during the riots of 1968, a liquor store owner got some of the natives to help him move out all of the valuable liquors and stock he had in his store. He told them they could have what was left, and then called police saying they were looting his store.
It was a pretty dirty trick, but not near as this one sounds. I guess the Obama Agents are as low as they come.
Minimum wage? Workmens comp? Social security? Union dues?...
Best not to try this with your farm or business or you will be working for cigarettes.
Trying to find an anti-government trial lawyer? Good luck with that!
Chauncey could just as easily be the pleasant young retarded black man who collects the shopping carts at our local supermarket. Happy to be working, he would be easy to victimize in that manner.
They have intercepted and confiscated (directly from the USPS in some cases) millions of cartons of cigarettes that people have purchased from on-line smoke shops.
So, when they seize machine guns from people one day late with their registration paperwork, do they pay those out as well? (And, are medical benefits also paid out in machine guns?)
That doesnt men that he belongs in jail for 6 months.
Who said he did??? What an lame comment...
” Fearless Distributing”
Isn’t this the same operation that lost a fully automatic assault rifle?
My point was with an IQ of 54 and not smart enough to tie his shoes, how can he be held criminally liable.
Those who should be prosecuted are the ones who let this guy run around completely unsupervised.
Yes, sir!
