Kirk Douglas looks around America these days and he sees too many guns.
The 96-year-old actor, best known for performances in classic films like Spartacus, Paths of Glory and Lust for Life, took to the cyber pages of The Huffington Post to call for more gun control--and far less guns.
I often played the good cowboy on screen, riding in to save the day. Now, everybody thinks he is a cowboy too. That frightens me. We have become a cowboy country with too many guns....
I cannot understand the people who are against some form of gun control. They should be the first to welcome a message on making it more difficult to get a gun. Many of them seem to propose more guns being available to everybody. Why? Are they interested in making more money for the gun manufacturers? Are they politicians who just want to oppose the president in anything he endorses? It's incomprehensible to me.

You were a great actor Mr. Douglas, stay out of politics and especially gun control, you’re embarrassing yourself.
How would he ever have gotten INTO a “Cowboy Hall Of Fame”? Don’t you have to herd cattle or sumfin? Playing a cowboy on the silver screen shouldn’t count!
Great actor, but just another liberal democrat. I respect his charitable contributions but that does not mean I must listen to his liberal rantings or respect them. I have known a few actors whose opinions I respect, chief among them are Ronald Reagan and Charlton Heston, Kirk does not even come close!
He was apparently injured in the war and discharged for such.
I too thought this old drama queen was taking the dirt nap.....darn.
Anyone who lives to 96 has lived a righteous life....Freeper complainers should do as well
As such I could care less what a 96 year old guy says on public issues. Who the heck annoyed him enough to get this quote??? I read Kirk Douglass bio years ago and he is a self made man who came from an abusive (father) family.
You make 96 you are have done something right in your life...to say the least
>> ‘Cowboy Country with too Many Guns’,
Brokeback Clam.
Well here’s Wikipedia on him.

Does not look like he ever actually cowboyed... not even in rodeos. I mean nothing wrong with portraying cowboys or even identifying with them in some measure... a lot of actual cowherds became heroes for excellent reason... but I’d think any meaningful Hall Of Fame should mean you actually cowboyed.
He’s a washed up old actor.
Who cares what he says?
Kirk must of fallen off a horse during the filming of his latest Western soon at your local theatre.
“I’m an old cowhand... on the Rio Grande...”
He could still act in the role of some young cowboy’s great grandpa, I suppose
Looks like an advert for a zombie film.
Senile old Bastid./

I don’t agree with him, but for God’s sake leave the old gentleman alone. He doesn’t deserve all these nasty remarks.
He’s 96 years old. He deserves to be able to say what he pleases.
He’ll soon be gone- just like Esther Williams.
And there is NOBODY who will ever replace the likes of our classic stars like him and Esther.
Just be thankful for all the wonderful entertainment that this true American legend has left us.
.
As if someone has chained him to a web browser looking at this page? What do you mean leave him alone?
Nonsense uttered in public should be publicly rebuked. Unless it is clear to all that he really is as nutty as a fruit cake.
Especially if that history is not their own. Revisionists start their games of rewriting history as soon as the last eyewitness is dead.
A student usually can learn only the version of history that his teacher decided to adopt. Do those teachers tell the pupils that cowboys carried firearms primarily not for the purpose of shooting each other? Do they tell them how large those ranches were, and how poor was the cell coverage? Had any of those teachers ever spent a night just a mile outside of the city boundary, with just the starry sky for protection?
