From Wikipedia:

"Boteach has espoused a somewhat accepting view of homosexuality: 'Homosexuality is akin to the prohibition against lighting fire on the Sabbath or eating bread during Passover; there is nothing immoral about it' " ... He [Rabbi Schmuley Boteach] supports gay marriage and recommended making family counseling tax deductible"

No thanks. The last thing we need right now is ANOTHER Republican to join Kirk and Portman in making a "bipartisan" push for "marriage equality". The liberal would LOVE that and it would give them more momentum to play up their "inevitable" talking point to get the GOP to surrender.

I know, I know, it's NJ... a bunch of freepers are going to say a RINO is "the best we can get" and blah blah blah (plus it's more than likely a RINO will be appointed no matter what)... but one of the things the media isn't talking about is gay marriage HASN'T passed in "progressive" New Jersey and Illinois precisely because social conservatives haven't rolled over for the Dems in these two states. We stopped it in Illinois this session because of a barrage of phone calls to the point where half the black caucus wouldn't endorse it, and it was stopped in NJ because Christie vetoed it and they don't have the 2/3rds vote to override him.

Anyway, aside from a freeper making a "Jew Jersey" typo a few months back, the reality is the state has only a tiny Orthodox Jewish population and most NJ voters would have a hard time identifying with an Orthodox Jewish Rabbi "representing" them them in the Senate. He's not a good fit for the state and hasn't been elected to anything. NJ isn't as RAT as people seem to think... the congressional delegation is 50% GOP now (6R, 6D)

Ideally I'd prefer an Al D'Amato type official who is conservative but popular with voters and comes from an Italian Catholic background. Of course do I think we'll get such an appointment? No.

An opportunity for Chrissy to do something useful for a change! Can Crissy delay the special till 2014? Should he? Don’t eff this up fat boy. How about you pick someone half decent who can hold the seat?

BTW the headline should read,

“Voodoo boom box runs out of batteries, long dead corpse of Frank Lautenberg loses supernatural ability to walk around.”

Or

“Frank Lautenberg 1338-2013

Earlier than expected sunrise dooms Vampiric Senator, Count Chockula to deliver eulogy.”

Bye, Frank.

Wonder how many New Jersey citizens died because they couldn’t carry a firearm to protect themselves, thanks to legislation this guy sponsored and pushed...

Wonder how many babies were aborted - murdered - because of legislation this guy sponsored and pushed...

I won’t miss this guy.

Condolences to his family. I’m sure they loved him, and it sucks to lose people you love.

That’s the best I can do.

“And not a moment too soon. That worthless SOB was one of the key players in the ongoing destruction of our fundamental rights.”

I’m with you. When a person in power CONSISTENTLY votes to tear down the country (maybe to the point where it cannot be recovered), it’s tough to have much sympathy when he dies.

It also means that the Dems will need to pluck off another Republican for gun control and Amnesty, if they want to pass either one in a hurry. So, in that way, taking his last breath may have been the only positive thing he did for the country in his political career.

Nothing good to say. The Republic and the Constitution is potentially slightly more safe than it was yesterday although every worthless democrat that dies still votes in perpetuity.

No democrat shows real sympathy when a conservative passes and they themselves deserve less respect than they give.

They are the enemies of the Republic and the Constitution and they would see all of us dead if it handed complete power to them.

Good riddance to a boil on the nation’s ass.

If he does not appoint a reliable Republican, he can kiss his Presidential aspirations good bye.

If he doesn't choose a Republican, he'll be forced on us by the RNC or DNC. Actually, doesn't matter which one, because now the RNC IS an arm of the DNC.

By at least one standard, Christie is the most conservative New Jersey Governor in 168 years:

http://www.app.com/article/20130126/NJNEWS1002/301260106/New-N-J-laws-from-last-session-168-year-low

I realize Christie is fat and he talks funny. But he's not going to run for anything as a Democrat. If there was any question, the saga of Arlen Specter should convince any Republican with with half a brain who had an idle fantasy about switching of how the 'rats treat turncoats.

Whoever Christie appoints is just in office until the November election. That may or may not be someone who is actually going to run this November. Whoever wins the November election then needs to stand for election again in November 2014.

Other considerations are what a US Senate race does to voter turnout demographics for the gubernatorial and state legislature races in November. This is all going to be "interesting" (old Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times"). I'd love to be a fly on the wall of Christie's office today.

Former NJ Governors Tom Kean (age 78) and Christie Whitman (age 66) come to immediate mind. (Both are pretty liberal by today's Republican party standards.) Can anyone think of any other NJ Republicans with name recognition who haven't gotten their butts kicked in statewide elections? I can't.

Sports Page

“Fencing results: Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod 1, US Senator Frank Lautenberg 0. There can be only one”

I wonder how many decades until he’s taken off the voter rolls and stops casting absentee ballots for the democrats.

It would be sweet if Doug Forrester was given the honor of completing the term.

Chris Christie can jump in his seat, and no loss of toeing the Party Line.

Lautenberg could still be re-elected, as in "weekend at Bernie's"....

The multitude of politicians like him serve as strong reason for restricting all elected offices to one term, at any and all levels of government.

Even if the intentions that you ascribe to Christie are 100% correct, he would still be unacceptable to Democrat primary voters, because he has opposed establishing same-sex marriage.

I have been told by doctors that pneumonia is a very peaceful death.

No, it's not. Once the ventilator is removed, you struggle to breathe until your heart stops.

You might not know it because you are sedated. But, it's a horrific experience for any family that witnesses it.

I had no idea that Rabbi Shmuley supported same-sex marriage; frankly, I’m shocked. He’s an Orthodox Jewish rabbi, for crying out loud.

Thinking more inside the box, the Republican that Christie should appoint is former Congressman Mike Ferguson, a Catholic who is quite conservative by NJ standards (and is a bona-fide pro-lifer) and who represented a central NJ district for like 10 years in the 2000s.
