Rand Paul: 'When Republican Party looks like the rest of America, we'll win'
Christian Science Monitor via Yahoo News ^ | June 2, 2013 | Mark Trumbull

Rand Paul is the latest Republican to tell his party to open up to a wider range of views within its ranks.

"The party can be big enough to allow people who don't all agree on every issue," Senator Paul told an audience in California, a state that produced three Republican presidents in the 20th century but now votes reliably Democratic.

"When the Republican Party looks like the rest of America, we'll win again," he said.

"It's not going to change who I am or what I talk about but I think we can be a big enough party to include people," Paul said at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif., Friday evening.

In his Friday talk, Paul sought to define himself, among other things, as a Republican who cares about the environment.

What do the Rand Paul supporters think -- is this a sensible, winning strategy or betrayal of conservatives?

I’ve heard the big tent GOP model before. How’d that work out?

Whatchootalkinboutwillis?

The only reason The Republican Party DOESN'T look like the rest of American is because whenever we nominate a Black or Hispanic or a Woman to represent us in the primary, the RATS and Independents DON'T vote for them in the general.

THEY are the racists, not us, my good sir, with the fine curly hair.

Sounds like the “If you can’t beat em, join em” strategy.

I wonder in what way Rand believes that the Dem party looks like the rest of America? I thought that the whole idea of a two party system was to have two different parties, not two copies of the same.

Yep, already going native and repeating MSMediot claims about the GOP. Of course since there is evidence he is a RINO like his father, well what could one expect.

This is loser strategy. And clearly a planned strategic move by the GOP to redefine what is “conservative”. It fits in with the Rubio “conservative” radio ads PAID FOR BY DEMOCRATS.

Why is it so difficult for the beltway GOP to engage the Dems? Too much work I guess. This is just more surrender from the stupid party.

This is descending into buffoonery on the part of the beltway GOP.

Elected Republicans are Democrats. Unelected Republicans are for the most part statists on social issues. Lots of Freepers are for Big Government....

People can look however they look, but they must subscribe to the fundamental compact that the founding fathers created.

When the GOP stops pissing off its base, it will win.

Ted Cruz is everything Rand can never be. There is a time and place for capitulation, and compromise, It’s called leadership, but until your the Leader, Presidential politics is a Blood Sport.

“When the Republican Party looks like the rest of America, we’ll win again”

but at that point you will be voting like the ‘rest of America’, so what will you have won?

this is a tacit admission that there is very little difference between the parties.

We will win when America realizes that America does not want what the pOpinjay in the White Hut wants to give them. America wants a rule of law. America wants make it own choices of what to purchase and how to earn the purchase price.

I was just informed that Rand Paul is the future.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3026366/posts?page=8#8

We do need to reach out in the right ways but unfortunately Paul talks about doing things differently then lays out a strategy for doing the same thing.

My strategy for reaching out includes not pandering to any specific groups. Instead I suggest installing policies at the federal, state and local levels that create jobs which is the only honest means government has of reaching out to anyone. On an individual level I hope people will reach out to the American plantation dwellers in their own way....or not if that is their choice.

Being against abortion and same sex marriage doesn’t mean that Freepers are statists.

One thing is sure — this language is NOT helpful. This is no way to frame a winning strategy.
