White and Hispanic turnout fell from 2004 to 2012, according to a new study by the Center for Immigration Studies based on newly-released U.S. Census data.
Had turnout equaled what it was in 2004, 4.7 million more whites would have voted in 2012, of which 4.2 million were not college graduates, according to the study.
Obama received five million more votes than Romney.
As Republicans think about how they can expand their voter base, the new data suggest that one of their biggest problems in the last presidential election was that so many less-educated whites sat home, said Steven Camarota, CIS director of research and author of the report. CIS favors low levels of legal immigration
These voters, who have been hit hard by the recession, have traditionally supported Republicans, Camarota said. It seems likely that by supporting the Schumer-Rubio amnesty, GOP legislators would further alienate these voters.
To win the popular vote with female support, Romney would have needed four extra percentage points of the womens vote (48 percent rather than the 44 he actually received), with each percentage point equating to 714,000 votes.
To earn the popular vote with blacks and Hispanics, Romney would have needed an extra 15 or 23 percentage points, respectively. But the statistics regarding whites demonstrated how closely the Republican candidate came to a plurality win.
With one percentage point of the white vote equating to 980,000 votes, Romney would have won the popular vote with a mere three percent greater turnout.
The Democrats choose their candidate for President and they choose the Republican candidate for President.
Not even sort of.
At least Romney recognized the Benghazi hoax from the beginning. Too bad he didn't have the balls to follow through. (See: Candybar Crowley)
I'm sure we'd have plenty of other things to yell at him about.
I do not think they can...they listen to jerks like Karl Rove.
I think they’ve already settled on riding Jeb Bush into the ground.
‘Like I said, run a moderate again, lose again. PERIOD.”
You live in a dream world — haven’t you noticed that a “conservative” can’t even get the GOP nomination.
What makes you think he/she could win an election where people of the entire political spectrum vote?
People should remember the Reagan quote on the art of compromise:
“When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn’t like it.
“Compromise” was a dirty word to them and they wouldn’t face the fact that we couldn’t get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don’t get it all, some said, don’t take anything.
I’d learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: ‘I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.’
If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that’s what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it.”
Yeah, without the help of the IRS and truckloads of voting scandals, who is to say any of them in DC won? I no longer recognize them any of them as ‘winners’. Until our government is cleaned up and our elections secure and honest—it’s over to me. I don’t recognize my government.
“Stay out the Bushes” Jesse Jackson
words to live by despite the messenger.
You sound like a classic Kapo republican.
I hate to tell you but your little fascist friends on the left might give you some crumbs for a while, but in the end, you’re just a particularly stupid target.
Well said...of course Romney won the popular vote. I suspect that shoe will drop before long...
Unfortunately, it’s people like you who gave us Obama.
I quoted Ronald Reagan — are you claiming that he was stupid and was enabling the left?!
I don’t believe he could have won.
He has to much of a pro-homosexual, pro-abortion, anti gun, pro obama care history.
is that you,Kathy?
I really don’t care what you prison guards pets think.
You know what they say — people who lost the argument resort to insults. Thanks for proving it.
GWB won twice. Is he back to being considered a conservative for the purposes of this discussion? Very few threads on this site have been suggesting that since he left office.
Add to that he never articulated that invaders should be sent back to their homelands and the US southern border should be secured. Then being a hedge fund manager?...they did some nasty economic stuff to US workers. These are all the reasons those conservative white and hispanic (yeah, conservative hispanic) voters stayed home. They didn't quite trust him.
No, folks, it was williard’s to lose. I should have been able to win this election against the marxist with such a high unemployment rate and high gas prices. If williard had stuck with the theme of “you just happen to pick the losers” (referencing Solyndra and other alternative energy frauds) and carried that attitude thru the election, it would’ve been a different ball game altogether. Instead he listened to his consultants and lost. He did a great job of attacking his GOP opponents in the primary, I’ll give him that.
Rush Limbaugh was right when he predicted that Romney would lose because he was running his primary like a liberal. He won Chicago but ignored Illinois. He won Detroit but ignored Michigan. He won St Louis but ignored Missouri.
Moderates can scream and cry all they want but they will lose if they try it again and that’s just the way it is. They claim its someone else’s fault but they’re bottom feeders who will vote for a democrat before voting for a conservative just like George Romney did.
Oh please. Romney NEVER stood a chance. And EVERY election is about turnout. Every single one. This is an argument you can always make. Had Gore had better turnout in FL he would have one.
Romney was a horrible candidate who was never going to come close to winning. And he didn’t. If we ever want to elect a Conservative it’s time to stop buying into these “feel good” theories.
They were waiting for a Conservative!!!!
