WASHINGTON Senator John McCains office is pushing back against reports that while visiting Syria this week he posed in a photo with rebels who kidnapped 11 Lebanese Shiite pilgrims.
The photo, released by McCains office, shows McCain with a group of rebels. Among them are two men identified in the Lebanese press as Mohamed Nour and Abu Ibrahim, two of the kidnappers of the group from Lebanon.

He’s still there because AZ Republican primary voters think he is important.

Yea, we should have made AZ part of NM, and that way they would have only two bad senators, instead of four.

No need for the “ouch”. You were simply sparing us the painful memory. :-) you had undergone memory repression and erased any memory of Romney but had not erased all the previous RINOs yet.

Let's try this again...
These have been the Republican standard bearers since President Ronald Reagan, 24 years ago.
How has that worked out for us?
Thanks to those of you who mentioned I left out Romney. Oops.

No excuses. I just zoned on Romney for some reason.
Thanks for the mention.

What did you expect? The Syrian rebellion, like the rest of the "Arab Spring," isn't being carried out by western-style lovers of free markets and democracy. At best, it's run by the likes of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. At worst, it's orchestrated by various Al Quaeda fronts.
McCain and Obama know this, but they're not ones to let facts get in the way of a good propaganda line.
To: Arthurio
Look how far John McCain has progressed, he’s essentially posing with the administrators of the Hanoi Hilton.

Sadly, the way things are going, in 2016 the next picture in your panel may very well be this one:

And all of a sudden the paid hacks will be back on the forum calling us names for objecting to anything Conservatives have found distasteful over the last 50 years.
Oh he did that? Well that’s okay. It’s him.

I know that mindset very well, i.e. as long as it's "R" rather than "D", everything they do is in keeping with conservative principles, by definition. During the Bush years, somehow Wilsonian "nation-building" abroad, No Child Left Behind education policy, the Patriot Act, and amnesty for illegals became core conservative values.
If McCain were President now, he'd be doing more or less the same things that Obama is doing at home and abroad, and he'd have his core team of defenders.
To: ek_hornbeck
Not to mention Bush’s Medicare Part D.
Even that was called sound policy.
You’re exactly right.

It was also funny to watch people who twisted themselves into knots defending TARP turn on a dime to attack TARP's continued implementation under a Democratic administration.
The only thing that has kept us from sending troops to Syria now is that Obama can't sell it to most Republicans - not on principle, but because he's a Democrat and they're Republicans. If McCain were President now, we'd have troops on the ground without a word of opposition from most House or Senate Republicans, except for a handful of libertarian-leading stalwarts.
