I always liked Merle Haggard’s music too, but he wrote a song which was inspired by what President Barack Obama called “Hopes Are High,” and which he wrote two days before the inauguration.

It is easier for me to say who I will listen to.

George Strait, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Ray Price, Aaron Watson, Alan Jackson, Rick Trevino, Bob Wills, Diamond Rio, Little Texas, and Wade Hayes. There hasn’t been a true country act start up in almost 15 years.

That about does it outside some classical pieces and occasional 80’s arena rock band.

Harry Belafonte hasn't had a hit since Island in the Sun faded from the charts in the spring of 1957. However, like has-beens such as Elizabeth Taylor and Zsa Zsa Gabor, he somehow retains an ability to grab headlines.

Absolutely not. Some of these musicians are great singers and have great songs. For example I love Bette Midler's song "From a Distance" which came out during Desert Storm
From a distance
The world looks blue and green
And the snow capped mountains white
From a distance
The ocean meets the stream
And the eagle takes to flight

From a distance
There is harmony
And it echoes through the land
Its the voice of hope
Its the voice of peace
Its the voice of every man

From a distance
We all have enough
And no one is in need
And there are no guns, no bombs and no disease
No hungry mouths to feed
From a Distance
We are instruments
Marching in a common band
Playing songs of hope
Playing songs of peace
They are the songs of every man

God is watching us
God is watching us
God is watching us
From a distance

From a distance
You look like my friend
Even though we are at war
From a distance
I just cannot comprehend
What all this fightings for
From a distance
There is harmony
And it echoes through the land
And its the hope of hopes
Its the love of loves
Its the heart of every man

God is watching us
God is watching us
God is watching us
From a distance

God is watching us
God is watching us
God is watching us
From a distance

"Wind beneath my Wings" is also a great song by her.

Not only does their music suck

Well, you can't really say that about Barbra Streisand. Though she has (had?) a great voice, she never wrote a note. Kinda like Linda Ronstadt.

Sheryl Crowe has a point.

Except that the people she speaks of do not truly represent The Tea Party. She picks the worst of the mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging rednecks she finds on YouTube and calls them Tea Partiers. Not so. The Tea Party is truly representative of people who want lower taxes and limited government...no matter whether they are Dems or 'Pubs.

Did you destroy all your recordings and swear to never listen to him again?

I can’t tell if your response is sarcasm. I’m asking if he heard of one of the most successful albums from the past decade from one of the most famous bands of the past twenty years. Anyway, as he correctly pointed out — music is subjective.

“American Idiot is the seventh studio album by the American punk rock band Green Day. The album achieved success worldwide, charting in 27 countries and peaking at number one in 19 of them, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Since its release, American Idiot has sold over 15 million copies worldwide.”

It’s... “Though shalt not pirate music, depriving the owners of their due income.”...you’re not supposed to paraphrase scripture.

The older ones have been banned here for years. The other ones, I’ve never heard of so it’s no harship on my musical enjoyment.

Technically, yes. But her words are carefully chosen to not be inflamitory. Fact is, I’ve felt that way. However, it is pretty standard at these events. Often it is not even that the people don’t know what they are talking about but that, when you stick a microphone in their face their brain stops.

It almost happened to me when I was interviewed as a “man on the street” in Seattle about 20 years ago after the Jim Beam trial. Jim Beam won the “fetal alcohol syndrom” case brought on by the parents. I argued that not only did I agree with the verdict but that the sate should have, and I quote, “frivolous lawsuit laws”, enabling Jim Beam to sue them. I even stuttered a bit before I said that. They still put it on the air. And it almost got me kicked off the jury of the civil lawsuit I was sitting on, except I told the Judge the two cases were not in the least bit related. Mine was about a kid falling off a slide in a city park onto asphalt and suffering a subdural hematoma. The city won...

Just because they voted for that arrogant pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave? Absolutely not. This is a free country and they can vote for whomever they want to.

Take for example Toby Keith

-- snip --

His political believe

Since 2002, Keith has made numerous trips to the Middle East to bring entertainment and encouragement to US men and women serving on or near the front lines. “My father was a soldier. He taught his kids to respect veterans,” said Keith. “It’s that respect and the thank-you that we have a military that’s in place and ready to defend our nation; our freedom

In 2004, Keith called himself "a conservative Democrat who is sometimes embarrassed for his party".[15] He endorsed the re-election of President George W. Bush in the 2004 presidential election and performed at a Dallas, Texas, rally on the night before the election. Keith also endorsed Democrat Dan Boren in his successful run in Oklahoma's 2nd congressional district and is good friends with former Democratic New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson. In a January 2007 interview with Newsday, Keith was asked whether he supported the Iraq War. He responded with "Never did," and said he favors setting a time limit on the campaign. He also said, "I don't apologize for being patriotic... If there is something socially incorrect about being patriotic and supporting your troops, then they can kiss my ass on that, because I'm not going to budge on that at all. And that has nothing to do with politics. Politics is what's killing America."

Entire piece here

I've always believed that being speaking comfortably & confidently in front of large crowds is a very powerful thing. It can set oneself apart. Most folks hate it.
I actually enjoy it. You just have to keep your wits about you. Some got it....some ain't.

I’m in complete agreement. I love public speaking. I really enjoyed toastmasters back in the day and my forte was table topics.

The microphone in the face thing is a learned skill. Sadly, most people at TEA party events don’t have it.
