Designs for many of the nations most sensitive advanced weapons systems have been compromised by Chinese hackers, according to a report prepared for the Pentagon and to officials from government and the defense industry.
Among more than two dozen major weapons systems whose designs were breached were programs critical to U.S. missile defenses and combat aircraft and ships, according to a previously undisclosed section of a confidential report prepared for Pentagon leaders by the Defense Science Board.
Experts warn that the electronic intrusions gave China access to advanced technology that could accelerate the development of its weapons systems and weaken the U.S. military advantage in a future conflict.
The Defense Science Board, a senior advisory group made up of government and civilian experts, did not accuse the Chinese of stealing the designs. But senior military and industry officials with knowledge of the breaches said the vast majority were part of a widening Chinese campaign of espionage against U.S. defense contractors and government agencies.
The significance and extent of the targets help explain why the Obama administration has escalated its warnings to the Chinese government to stop what Washington sees as rampant cybertheft. . .

as much as i despise Barry this has been going on since the 1990’s.
Where was the Washington Post when Bill Clinton was giving Bejing-based Primeon our y2k remediation for our military and other govt computers? Where were they when Clinton was neck-deep in Loral money? Ptshh. I have news for them: the NYTimes isn’t the U.S. entity that’s been hacked by the Chinese and Russians.
Everybody wave, smile, and say ‘Hi’ to Xu and Sergei. Then take the blue pill. Trust me on this.
In this area, Obastard is no worse than clinton.

How did they do this... subscription to the NYT online? Inquiring minds want to know!
of course it was physical theft along with cyber back then.
Once again, corrupt government leadership, corrupt government.
Klinton didn’t GIVE the Chinese anything. But he probably could have gotten more of a BRIBE than he did, the cheap SOB.
IMO,in addition to the Chinese government employing millions of hackers to probe Western computers there can be no doubt that 99% of the "students","businessmen" and "diplomats" found in advanced, democratic countries (the US.Europe,Japan, etc) are spies.
Right? Who in sam hell would put this stuff on a server that is accessible to the outside world?
Intranet/Internet......there's a difference.
The Pentagon needs to form a task force of accountants to tally up the dollar value of everything the Chines have stolen from the U.S. government and private sector going back 30 years. Then balance that against the Treasury’s debt to China. China would still end up owing us money.
A Great Idea. Now to see if anyone has gonads.
Our diverse military, with its strong LGBT contingents, Affirmative Action promotions, women in combat, and kind and gentle ROE's should be able to handle the CHICOM easily, because as you may know, much of their defense industry is not ecologically sensitive, contributes to Global Warming, and has a Carbon Footprint like you just wouldn't believe.
Plus, Brad, you ignore the strong leadership we have in the WH under Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. (AKA II, Barry Soetoro, etc.) This guy is tough, and when he's on vacation, Valerie Jarrett is in charge. She's even tougher. Besides, she is in constant and instant communication with Reggie Love, who always knows where our fearless POTUS is.
You are so covered, Dude!
Even an air gap isn’t foolproof, but it’s a good start.
None of this surprises me. Time for America to clean house or watch as the ship of Freedom sinks into the abyss.
