7500 Hijack -so we know it isn’t that
To: RummyChick
Yes, and just heard apparently not terror related, so all is well!
But any problem with a plane from Pakistan is a cause for concern!
To: Biggirl
Not much will go on the world news-wise in the next three days, because of the holiday /sarc
The pre-recorded touchy-feely stories will take precedence

Considering PIA’s safety record I’m surprise 7700 isn’t hard wired into their transponders.

It may or may not be terror related — I think it’s too early to tell.
From the article you posted:
“An Essex Police spokeswoman said: “An incident has occurred on an aircraft. Police and partners are responding.”
I doubt they would have scrambled fighter jets, if the incident had been a drunk passenger...

Amy Kellogg — unknown what the problem is. Plane has landed at Stansted Airport (was headed to Manchester).
Plane/pilot put out emergency signal about an hour previous. Unknow at present what that emergency is/was or whether it involved person(s) or equipment.

Depends on if the pilots declared an emergency or not. If the pilots declared an emergency to get priority handling from ATC, the controllers may ask them to squawk (set their transponder to) 7700 just to make them easier to spot on radar and let the controllers get them a clear path to Stansted.
