ACTUAL TITLE: 911 Dispatcher Tells Woman About To Be Sexually Assaulted There Are No Cops To Help Her Due To Budget Cuts
JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. (CBS Seattle) An Oregon woman was told by a 911 dispatcher that authorities wouldnt be able be able to help her as her ex-boyfriend broke into her place because of budget cuts.
Oregon Public Radio reports that an unidentified woman called 911 during a weekend in August 2012 while Michael Bellah was breaking into her place. Her call was forwarded to Oregon State Police because of lay-offs at the Josephine County Sheriffs Office only allows the department to be open Monday through Friday.
Uh, I dont have anybody to send out there, the 911 dispatcher told the woman. You know, obviously, if he comes inside the residence and assaults you, can you ask him to go away? Do you know if hes intoxicated or anything?
The woman told the dispatcher that Bellah previously attacked her and left her hospitalized a few weeks prior to the latest incident. The dispatcher stayed on the phone with the woman for more than 10 minutes before the sexual assault took place.
Once again its unfortunate you guys dont have any law enforcement out there, the dispatcher said, according to Oregon Public Radio.
The woman responded: Yeah, it doesnt matter, if he gets in the house Im done.
Police say Bellah choked the woman and sexually assaulted her. He was arrested by Oregon State Police following the incident.
There isnt a day that goes by that we dont have another victim, Josephine County Sheriff Gil Gilberson told Oregon Public Radio. If you dont pay the bill, you dont get the service.
The sheriffs department had to cut 23 deputies and the entire major crimes unit after it lost a multi-million dollar federal subsidy, according to Oregon Public Radio. There are now only six deputies left.
The sheriffs department even put out a press release warning domestic violence victims to consider relocating to an area with adequate law enforcement services.
Bellah pleaded guilty to kidnapping, sex abuse and assault.
Exactly...that’s why this “story” was featured on Oregon Public Radio...you know where they stand on spending.
You really think she “deserved” it????
The officer on the night shift forgot to leave the bullet when he punched out to go home.
I’ll bet that the dispatchers there have a union, and union HQ ordered that the answer be stated that way, to try to blame Republicans for “cutting” funds!
This is AWESOME!
There is NO BETTER WAY to teach people what the role of law enforcement is than to use this incident.
LEO’s are there to APPREHEND SUSPECTS AND COLLECT EVIDENCE. That’s it.
Protecting yourself? THAT’S YOUR JOB, which is why the founders decided that the right to protect yourself should be in the Constitution.
Outstading.
Josephine County needs to elect a new sheriff. He’s still got six deputies and himself. That’s one on call each night.
This is a rural county with 80K people and 67% of the land is owned by the federal government.
The real problem is the Oregon public employees union, it’s sucking the life out of every county budget due to the high overhead on pie in the sky retirement and benefit promises.
Or number "6" shot to the groin a couple of times. (More shot equals more holes in the trouser snake and other man parts which tends to refocus his mind from rape to not bleeding to death and making sure his man parts don't fall off.)
The article said the assault had happened a few weeks prior. Can someone purchase a gun anymore in a couple of weeks?
But I’m sure there’s plenty of cops ticketing motorists for minor traffic violations....
Priorities, people.
(Do I really need a sarc?)
You need to tell her to count her rounds as shooting. She should save one round for the absolute necessity of in the head for the scumbag.
Where were the six deputies on the force? Were all of them seriously involved fighting *real* crimes-—theft, rape, murder at the time?
Even in Canada you can same day as long as it’s unrestricted, so a shotgun would be a good way to go.
Well, when seconds count, the police may not ever show up
Oh maaaaaan, that is awesome awesome awesome! One of the best vids I seen all year! That is getting forwarded BIG time. And just think: In reality, 2nd amendment unconstitutional infringement is WORSE than that. The citizen has access to NO gun whatsoever.
All she had to say was “I just shot and killed my boyfriend” and the cops would’ve been there in seconds flat!
The dirty little secret is they have raided the police and school funding to pay for the Oregon Health plan.
Pray for America to Wake Up
And I agree....!!
