BRILLIANT WRITING!!!!

Bloggers take note: Inflammatory, brilliant and accurate Thesis in the first two sentences.

Spectacular.

This is the standard of engaging writing to which people should aspire.

Actually there are two possibilities. There is either a totalitarian screaming to get out or a conservative trying to escape.

After all, look at David Horowitz himself. His inner conservative managed to escape its dyed in the wool communist shell.

One size doesn’t fit all. It’s a spectrum that applies to both right and left.

There are the liberal elite who don’t care about power over others, they already have that. They want to control the lives of the little people so they don’t consume too much, or pollute too much and end up fouling up the elite’s world.

Then there are the foot soldiers who desperately hope for shared misery. They are willing to accept any regulation, provided it applies to all, so that we’re “all the same”.

I’m sure that drawing is supposed to be generic, but I wish it generically looked a little more like Bloomberg than Al Haig.

An excellent rationale for not giving Progressives an in, as they will certainly take a mile.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C.S. Lewis

A great essay, and thanks for posting.

Let me reiterate that once government is permitted to use force at all in a given matter, any degree of force is allowed.

That's absurd. If that were the case that friendly corner traffic cop would have morphed into a body-armor-wearing monster in a black uniform using heavy infantry weapons and riding armored vehicles by now. And we know that's not...oh, wait.

But despite what the Progressive believes about himself, the desire to compel others to obey his orders is what drives him forward.

This is the problem with altruism. If altruism is believed to be man's prime virtue, then the next step is the belief that if some are not altruistic then they are bad people because they are depriving others of what they must provide them. Then, the final step is the belief that those non-altruistic people need to be forced to be altruistic.
