Early returns showed Portland residents voting to keep their city the largest in the U.S. without fluoride in the water.
With more than half the expected ballots counted Tuesday night, the Multnomah County election website showed the fluoride proposal failing, 60 percent to 40 percent.
Voters in Portland twice rejected fluoridation before approving it in 1978. That plan was overturned two years later, before any fluoride was ever added to the water.
The City Council voted last year to add fluoride to the water supply that serves about 900,000 people. But opponents quickly gathered enough signatures to force a vote on the subject.

Also, distilled water has a tendency to leech minerals out of your body...
Would you trust any of those idiots adding chemicals to your water?
Would you trust any of those idiots to measure accurately?
Fluoride is a deadly toxin. While small amounts of it on the surface of yr teeth may help prevent cavities, it is not meant to ever be ingested. Certainly not in your daily water consumption. Also, fluoride on teeth is not as good for them as other minerals and vitamins k2 and d3.
Portland is lucky -— they were not fooled by the government decision to get rid of neurotoxic fluoride waste product by putting it into the water supply.
Those who posture themselves to control "Birth Control", will eventually control birth.
“Europe doesnt allow Fluoridated water in almost every country. They took it out-and there was no increase in cavities.”
Have you ever seen an average European’s teeth? Not a pretty sight.
If you're referring to the Freepers who refuse to believe the earth is more than 6000 years old, I've known a number of ardent Dems who believed the same thing. I'd guess a very sizable percentage of Dems believe in the young earth and/or who don't believe in evolution.
When I was growing up in La Crosse, Wis. back in the sixties, they used to have a public talk forum on one of the radio stations. At that time, the city was discussing fluoridating the water supply. There were large numbers of people pro and con. The con people would publish pictures of people with severely mottled teeth supposedly from having their water fluoridated. The only problem was they were showing pictures of people who were living in areas where the water was naturally fluoridated at many times the ppm that cities put in the water supply.
The con position eventually disintegrated, and the city fluoridated the water. In the fifty years since, there have been no news of serious diseases or higher death rates in La Crosse due to fluoridation. There was a great decrease in the amount of cavities for children. Which was the goal.
Fluoride chemicals added to public water supplies, boosts lead absorption in lab animals’ bones, teeth and blood, report Sawan, et al. (Toxicology 2/2010). Earlier studies already show children’s blood-lead-levels are higher in fluoridated communities, reports Sawan’s research team.
“
exposure to increased amounts of lead and fluoride occurs at about the same age (1-3 years)
Therefore, this is a critical time when systemic exposure to fluoride should be minimized since fluoride may increase lead accumulation,” the researchers caution.
Low-level lead exposure is associated with lower IQ, ADHD and many health and behavior ailments.

Let us tell you a tale of two citiesTacoma, Washington, and Thurmont, Maryland. Both of them saw significant decline in lead levels only six months after fluoridation was stopped. (In Tacoma, that was due to equipment problems, in Thurmont, it was a temporary ban by the city council.) Tacoma registered a drop of nearly 50% (20); in Thurmont it was 78%. To the best of our knowledge, no other explanations were offered. In Thurmont the ban is now permanent.
Unfortunately, Tacoma returned to fluoridating its drinking water and a battle continues over whether to stop it.
I’d rather the “children” (it’s always for the “children”, you know) get their fluoride from toothpaste or the dentist. Keep it out of the water.
Actually it was a scam by the city council to raise taxes and the voters turned it down. Big win for P-Town conservatives.

“This is getting too weird. Even for Portland.” — Sgt. Wu in `Grimm’
WHAT! Politicians pulling a scam? In Portland? No way. LOL!
Since most kids don’t even drink the water, why not put it in the soda pop?
Doesn’t make sense to fluoridate your shower or the turds you flush.
How would that help the teeth?
Soda pop?
When was the last time you saw a kid drinking water?
Most kids don’t even drink the water... they drink soda pop...
Fluoridating your shower and your turds isn’t going to help your teeth... unless you are a shiite eating liberal...
Most experts have found no link between lead in the water and fluoride. They found that the instances of high levels of lead in the water was related to older homes with lead pipes for plumbing. There was scant or no lead exposure in newer homes with no lead pipes.
Yes, the Rinos on this site want the government to be their health nanny. Portland doesn’t have fluoridated water. 50 miles away, Salem, Oregon has fluoridated water. There’s no significant difference in the number of dental carries. Fluoridation is just another welfare program for buying industrial wastes.
