The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 was originally established to protect American citizens from the federal use of military troops to enforce and execute the laws of the land unless expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress. Since then, for over a century, this task has fallen upon local and federal law enforcement. But with the War on Terror taking center stage in the United States for the last decade, elements within the government have been working tirelessly to expand the mission of the US military on the domestic front.
First, they passed the Patriot Act, which gave the government sweeping new powers to categorize any individual as a terrorist, whether they are operating on foreign lands or here at home. In 2011, as America brought in the New Year, they signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act, which made it possible for American citizens who were categorized as domestic terrorists under the Patriot Act to be detained and imprisoned indefinitely without charge or trial.
Finally, last week we learned that, as President Obama came under fire for the many scandals rocking his administration, the government was quietly moving to give the Department of Defense unprecedented authority on U.S. soil, effectively nullifying Posse Comitatus.
Eric Blair of Activist Post writes:
First, the senate is debating an expansion of the already broad powers of the 2001 Authorization to Use Military Force (AUMF) so the U.S. can essentially engage any area in the world in the war on terror, including America. Which brings us to the second development: the Pentagon has recently granted itself police powers on American soil.
Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Sheehan told Congress yesterday that the AUMF authorized the US military to operate on a worldwide battlefield from

What a crock of BS. No one was shot, no one was killed a baby died of complications (tear gas) later in a hospital.
Yes. I learned about that in “Unintended Consequences”.
Shameful, murderous, and despicable. Sickens me.
Then you learned junk history. That link in a total fabrication. You have to be a complete nut job to fall for it.
When local cops are given military gear and training, then they effectively become military troops.
When local cops' funding is dependent upon federal grants, and those grants are conditional upon local cops obeying federal orders, then they are federal troops in all but name.
The Sheriffs office thought, why don't we hold a photo op of our SWAT capabilities. So, they all gathered together, dressed up in their lil black/olive get-ups, donning all their military toy’z and stuff. Bearcat Armored vehicle in the background.
So, what better way to get the money shot than to fly their newly acquired surveillance drone overhead and capture the inglorious moment.
HOUSTON...we have a problem!!! The operator lost contact with the drone. It began buzzin around out of control, causing Swat dudes to run for cover...and finally crashed into the side of the Bearcat SWAT van.
I thought....wow! It's good day.

Don’t most educated people know that; do you think MacArthur, Patton and Eisenhower world be silent and unpatriotic today because they obeyed an order to disperse the Vets in 1932? Don’t let that awful event override the point that we are in a very bad situation now with communist running the government and in need of much stronger anti-communist leaders and actions. I could have said Washington and you could have brought up the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791; or Andrew Jackson and you’d said what about the Trail of Tears in 1831; or Thomas Jefferson and you’d bring up Sally. Don’t you know how MacArthur and Patton felt about communism.
Oops!
Sad thing is, probably half of the people on this “freedom” loving site are cool with living in a police state. That is as long as the cat in the white house has the right letter next to his name. Hell, revise that...most of them will bow, stoop and genuflect to anything wearing a shiney badge and a fine hat, regardless of who is in the white house.
I don’t mind once believing something that’s not true...that’s the way of learning, doesn’t make me a nutjob.
Be nice if instead of calling names you could show how that’s a fabrication...
I’d love for that not to be true actually.
