The House Ways and Means Committee has scheduled a formal hearing Friday to probe the Internal Revenue Service for placing heavier scrutiny on conservative groups that applied for nonprofit status between 2010 and 2012. IRS Commissioner Steve Miller and Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration J. Russell George are expected to testify Friday morning during the hearing, which committee leaders said would examine the agency's "practice of targeting applicants for tax-exempt status based on political leanings." The IRS last week apologized for targeting groups that advocate for limited government by requiring them to fulfill onerous requirements before receiving tax-exempt status. A report from the inspector general detailing the agency's practices is expected to be published later this week. "News that the agency admits it targeted American taxpayers based on politics is both astounding and appalling," said Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, a Michigan Republican, in a written statement. "The Committee on Ways and Means will get to the bottom of this practice and ensure it never takes place again. President Barack Obama addressed the IRS' behavior during a brief press conference Monday, calling it, if true, "outrageous."

Wouldn’t Timothy Geitner be implicated in this?
I gave up on Hannity in 2003, and Rush in the past year, sad to say.
Trust Anderson Cooper will still be doing shake-n-bake with the Cincinnati Hell House.
No Benghazi, no IRS persecution, no Gosnell, no AP taps.
CNN will probably build a Hell House torture sound stage complete with hanging chains and monkey bars for Anderson Cooper to swing on.
Cong Issa's panel should find out what the Obomba WH and Holder's DOJ knew about abusing IRS power for illegal purposes. Congress MUST ask the right questions:
(1) The IRS has admitted profiling conservative groups for extra-IRS scrutiny----did the IRS ever leak tax info?
(2) Obama took control of the census when he took office in 2008---was census info ever used in conjunction w/ IRS data?
(3) Were there ever break-ins at the hdq of Tea Party, patriot groups , home-schoolers, Christian individual and groups, gun rights advocates, Romney hdq, Repub offices?
(4) Did the actons of a sitting US president using the power of the IRS like a 40's-era Gestapo invalidate the presidential election of 2012?

Cong Issa needs to be prepared to use the following info:

Good list, Liz!
So have I...
Hannity can’t stop repeating himself and patting himself on the back and haven’t turned on Rush since the election.
I have had enough of both of them waxing poetically about themselves and how great they are (& buy my stuff because I said so).
Yeah, it’s too bad.
They belong in jail!!
Miller, who has spent more than 20 years at the IRS, has been a deputy commissioner since September 2009. He previously headed the IRS’s exempt organizations division. He also worked at the congressional Joint Committee on Taxation.
Shulman, a Democrat appointed to the post under Republican President George W. Bush. Shulman was confirmed by the Senate in March 2008.
The IRS will play a key role in the law, including a new tax for individuals who fail to obtain medical insurance starting in 2014.
I hope this hearing will be televised. The IRS went after groups of law-abiding citizens so it’s only appropriate that We the People be able to observe this hearing.
NOBODY in government does anything without the approval of higher ups. Lower level people just don’t decide to do things on their own. The most trivial of memos is reviewed ad nauseaum and run through an a long approval chain.
Federal employees are cautious by nature, which is one of the reasons they work in government. It suits them. IRS employees are no exception.
Over two years, IRS field office agents repeatedly changed their criteria while sifting through thousands of applications from groups seeking tax-exempt status to select ones for possible closer examination, the findings showed.
At one point, the agents chose to screen applications from groups focused on making “America a better place to live.”
Exactly who at the IRS made the decisions to start applying extra scrutiny was not clear from the findings, which were contained in portions of an investigative report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA).
Expected to be made public this week, the report was obtained in part by Reuters over the weekend as a full-blown scandal involving the IRS scrutiny widened, embarrassing the agency and distracting the Obama administration.
In one part of the report, TIGTA officials observed that the application screening effort showed “confusion about how to process the applications, delays in the processing of the applications, and a lack of management oversight and guidance.”
By July 2011, the IRS was no longer targeting just groups with certain key words in their names. Rather, the screening criteria had changed to “organizations involved with political, lobbying, or advocacy.”
But then it changed again in January 2012 to cover “political action type organizations involved in limiting/expanding government, educating on the constitution and bill of rights, social economic reform/movement,” according to the findings contained in a Treasury Department watchdog report.
In May 2012, the criteria for scrutiny were revised again to cover a variety of tax-exempt groups “with indicators of significant amounts of political campaign intervention (raising questions as to exempt purpose and/or excess private benefit),” according to a TIGTA timeline included in the findings.

I want him to fire every single person that either participated in this
*******
Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to fire anyone in the federal government. No heads will roll in IRS for this.
Pass it on-—to Congress, media, etc.
Let’s hope that this is the beginning to the end of this national nightmare.
NONE in Obama’s administration has ever experienced any consequences for their illegal action(s).
Name one.
Some was (were) supposedly fallen on their sword to ‘take one for the team’ got compensated quietly and out of public’s eyes.
Calling upon an “acting commissioner” to resign is ludicrous since he is only a placeholder and has virtually no authority on policy. They need to go back and grill Shulman and then charge him with perjury.
This was not restricted to just one or two individuals, as Team Obama has tried to claim.
Those ‘agents’ needed supervisory permission to develop the various long forms and questionaires that ‘agents’ used to gather information. Those forms and questionaires were relatively extensive.
No, this was an organized/supervised effort and it probably involved many employed by the IRS, and possibly even groups of employees in several IRS locations.
This is not an isolated incident involving only a very few.
Check what I said in my last post...Miller was eyeball deep in this and needs to not only resign but go to jail too, taking Shulman and their underlings with him.
