After three hours of noticeably civil debate and personal, sometimes emotional speeches, the Minnesota House passed a bill Thursday, May 9, that would make it legal for same-sex couples to marry.
The bill is scheduled for a vote Monday in the Senate, where leaders have said they have the votes to approve it. Gov. Mark Dayton has said he will sign it.
If approved, the law would make Minnesota the 12th state in the nation to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry. It would take effect Aug. 1.
The House vote was 75-59. All but two of the 73 Democrats voted in favor of the bill. They were joined by four Republicans.

Kill ‘em with kindness.
I don't know Minnesota well (I'm from the People's Republik of Connecticut), however my husband and I were in the Minneapolis area for a few days last July. Did some 'touristy' things: attended a couple of Twins' games, checked out the Mall of America, and a few other places.
What stunned me the most about Minneapolis: The sheer numbers of Muslims roaming the streets, with many of the women in full burkas - only their eyes were visible. And of course the burka-clad women were all pushing baby carriages. I've been to many other American cities, but I've never seen anything like this in the US before.
WHAT is going on in Minneapolis with these Muslims??
The only place in Minneapolis where we did not see any Muslims was at the two Twins' games we attended...
Easy money.
I’m almost ready to “retire early” to do my part to DEFUND this BEAST.
I can make it, I know I can, but that’s the end of America when traditional, hard-working folk stop innovating & producing.
Homosexuality in general seems to create emotional immaturity: selfishness, pettiness, short time horizons, etc.
same here, I just tell people they’re not married, it’s not normal, and why do they feel to tell the world what kind of sex they have and why do they feel to change what a family is after thousands of years and nature
About 15 or 20 years ago, some well meaning but intellectually challenged churches, United Church of this and United Church of that, sponsored large number of Somali refugees to relocate because of famine, wars, etc. They really were well meaning but the Twin Cities changed as a result. There are a lot of them there and they don't integrate well which should have been anticipated. Crime is up. The rest of the state is essentially unchanged but the metro is not what it used to be.
One was on tv news 5 last night opposing the bill . I was surprised they showed her.
In Minnesota gay marriage bill, word ‘civil’ inserted to protect churches, get votes.
The day before a historic vote in the Minnesota House on a bill to legalize gay marriage, key supporters said they would back a proposed amendment shoring up religious protections — and possibly attracting Republican support.
The amendment would insert the word “civil” in front of “marriage” in order to underscore that what state law sanctions is a civil, not a religious, designation, Rep. David FitzSimmons, R-Albertville, said Wednesday, May 8
I think it still would have passed without this...
Adding “civil” only ensures religious conscience protection until a homosexual brings a lawsuit to a rogue judge who claims that it violates equal protection under the law.
If Minnesota wants to have gay marriage and they do it by legislative means, that’s their business. We may not like it; we may think its wrong or against God’s Will, but if its voted in, that’s fine with me. Its a state issue. The Feds and judges shouldn’t impose gay marriage against the will of the people, but they shouldn’t stop it against the will of the people either. If people in MN don’t like it, they should vote their legislators out of office.
Don’t let a bunch of liberals influence your decision to retire. They are wrong about everything.

My thoughts exactly!
Any compassion, tolerance, acceptance or kindness on the subject has been bullied right out of my attitude!
This is my Fathers world
O let me neer forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Fathers world
The battle is not done
Jesus Who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heavn be one.
I love that song. :)
Guess again, son.
That would completely creep me out! It’s like Minneapolis has been taken over by aliens...and I DO mean aliens! It will backfire one day...just look at the examples in England and France. Have Americans become such sheep that we just roll over and give up our identity and our freedom over such insane lifestyles?
Truthfully, I am thankful I live in Texas. I feel like we are the last front line....and hope we can hold it!
I’m done with tolerant. Look where it’s gotten us so far! I will not give up my beliefs to compromise. With ANYone!
