... As CBS 2s Dave Carlin reported, Jack Pawlowski was led out of his Queens home in handcuffs Wednesday, with his stunned wife and three young kids looking on. He said nothing as detectives put him into a squad car.
But earlier, he allowed CBS 2 up to the familys apartment to get a video of what he calls the harmless kids toys that started it all.
Pawlowski told CBS 2 he took a toy gun, and two of his kids, around the corner to Ditmars Park. It was around noon and packed with kids and their parents.
... At first I thought I was hallucinating, said Maria Smilios of Astoria. He pulled out this gun.
Smilios saw the toy up close, and at first thought it was the real thing. She gave CBS 2 a cellphone photo she said shows Pawlowski firing pellets at a tree.
The next thing, he took his son, who is 3, and showed him how to use it, and then the family took turns shooting the gun. He gave it to his daughter, who took off on the bicycle and started racing around the park with the gun pointing this way and just started pointing it at the kids, Smilios said.
Another mom who was on a playground at the park at the time said she walked up to Pawlowski, and told him to take the toy gun and his kids and leave.
I dont tend to take things lying down, so I went past the parents, and so I walked straight over and I confronted him, said Leni Calas. I mean, hes brandishing a firearm and I dont care if that firearm is plastic. Thats unacceptable.

God save us from self-important a$$-holes. “I hope he learns” was repeated by several of the people interviewed.
My question is - if they were so scared by this realistic looking firearm simulant, why didn’t they grab their kids and run screaming from the park? If they truly thought it was a real firearm, they should be arrested for endangering their own kids by allowing them to stay in the park where someone was waving a “gun” all over the place.

Yeah, I believe it when Leni says he doesn’t take things lying down. He probably bends over instead.
Careful - that picture will probably make Leni Calas piss himself.
He needs to get his kids out of that mess before they are ruined!
Journalists are the worst people in the world at their own profession. Is haveing a toy gun illegal in NYC or not? Never once is this clarified in the article. The fact that a Jackboot they interviewed stated that the peon was taught a lesson has nothing to do with whether or not something is actually illegal.
The most anti-gun person I have ever met was from New York City. Almost passed out at the sight of a picture of an antique Civil War revolver. Why she moved to a gun loving rural area is beyond me.
I responded on the meddling, do-gooder’s article here:
So...what did they charge him with? Possession of plastic?
They start turning their kids into phobic fruitcakes before they are potty trained.
Reminds me of the time, as a young man, that I was pulled over in my ‘64 Skylark convertible for a taillight being out at 1:30am on the way home from the recording studio.
Young kid, with a shaved head, driving an older car with a loose electrical connection to the taillight socket, at 1:30am.... COP MAGNET.
Cops hauled me out of car, hands on the hood treatment while they searched the car... along with the drum kit in the back seat they took offense to the baseball bat and glove and requested I keep that in the trunk.
Then with the whole drumkit pulled out on the side of the road, bat and glove secured in trunk... the cop held up one of the boomerangs I had in the back seat as well (I had a collection of about 9 different boomerangs all of various design and flight characteristics). The cop asked me if I knew how to “use” the boomerang as he held it up, and I said I did... and immediately he says, “Well, since you know how to use this, it could be used as a weapon against an officer of the law. You should secure these in your trunk as well.”
I felt like saying, “Excuse me officers, can you please go stand 30 to 40 yards down the road so I can get a clean shot at you both with my boomerang?”
Instead, I put it in the trunk, jiggled the wire and the taillight came back on, and was on my way home with a warning... an hour and a half later, getting back home at about 3:45am. Oh, and I had to be up at 5am to shovel coal into a steam locomotive’s firebox all day...
Ah to be 20 again... the things I would do differently... like saying, “No you will NOT search my vehicle without a search warrant signed by a judge, you effing fascist”.
I mean, when I was 20, I didn’t drink or smoke or do drugs or ogle slutty women or nothing... I was just a kid... a good kid that played softball on Sundays, helped out friends in a band, and threw boomerangs around out in the middle of a field for fun... when I wasn’t busting my ass working on the railroad for $8/hr.

Did this toy weapon not have the orange tip required to designate it as a toy? With no laws on the books about toy weapons in a park I say Sue for all you can and the lady the initiated false arrest!
These Idiot Do Gooders are going to have to be taught a lesson!
I have run out of adjectives..that one will do fine...
exactly what I was thinking!
cha ching!
payday!
Actually, New York DOES have a law about bb guns/airsoft guns.
First of all, they must be brightly colored in red, orange, blue, etc.
Secondly, the guy gave the gun to his 3 year old son to shoot, THEN let his daughter take the gun and ride around the park on her bike and point it at other kids.
If nothing else, the dude was a huge safety hazard.
Leni Calas thought it was a real gun and confronted him? REALLY?

Jaw-droppingly stunning in the level of stupidity demonstrated by some busy-body woman and the cops, who busted the guy in front of his family and hauled him away handcuffed in a cruiser???????
And with all the crime in Noo Yawk, they have nothing better to do than hassle some guy playing with his kids in the park?????
This is just nuts - an absolute Orwellian nightmare.
Conratulations Michael Bloomberg; no doubt this is exactly what you wanted.
Pop tarts is the gateway drug to toy guns.
