Both cases (Dugard and this one) seem similar. Same with Smart and Hornbeck and countless others. They were controlled by their captors. All of the living situations/conditions seem horrid to me.
that does not mean the brothers did not know
They are not immigrants. That is not a technicality. They are American Citizens even if they where born in Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico is an American territory. Besides these guy may have been born here. They are simply of Puerto Rican decent. No different that a person whose parents moved here from Germany or Ireland.
This has nothing to do with race.
The ages of two of the girls at the time of their abduction was 14 and 16 (almost 17). The third was 20 at the time she was abducted. Not that these ages matter with respect to their abuse and mental stress.
I’d already said I didn’t know that and apologized and I just quoted a newspaper. We all quote newspapers here every day and don’t go digging everything up to see if every article is 100% valid.
I realize it’s probably your town, but it’s not like we’re beating up on you.
Thinking this information important when considering the environment.
Further... it was stated not unusual to see prostitutes and others in unusual dress and behavior there....calls to police from this area was frequent on happenings or sitings of the unusual which came into the the police offices from this area.
Information coming out says that they were born here, and that their father was from Puerto Rico.
Be that as it may, my comment related to the fact that, just because Puerto Rico is technically a part of the U.S., and its citizens are Americans, they're actually from a different culture than what exists on the mainland.
I don't mean that to be a slam on people who are from there. There are areas within the borders of the Lower 48 states that also qualify for that distinction.
The girls were mostly kept in separate rooms, so ganging up wasn't possible...The windows were boarded up...and the houses next to them were also boarded up without anyone living in them...Additionally kept in the basement when he wasn't there.
When you listen to authorities explain the environment...and that these woman were kept tied up or chained in separate rooms etc......you can formulate a better opinion then the questions you have now.
I could see that. But even with neighbors less than ten feet from my house, I would know little of what happens in the house next door.
My one neighbor I see regularly and have only been in his house one time. He is divorced and lives with his daughter. We talk a few times a month and waive and say high a couple times a week.
The other neighbor on the other side I do not know at all except by sight. I knew the previous owners quite well as I had gone to school with one of her brothers and she was in my sisters class through high school. This guy is single and travels, or at least is gone regularly. I don’t even know his name and he has lived here for half a decade. If he was holding someone in that house, I would have no clue.
How many neighbors do people really know in this day of air conditioning, two income households and small one or two child families?
We have become much less interactive on a personal basis in the last several decades.
I don’t think anyone Is beating up on me, I am simply stating that so many strange things have been said like naked women in the back yard, screams and thumping coming from the home, people being seen in windows, and calls to the police that are not responded to.
This is so silly. Even in Cleveland where the weight of the local policeman is measured in metric tons and no donut shop goes unprotected, they actually do go out on their calls. Even if the police had entered to home, for whatever reason, he could have had these women tied up in the basement and gagged.
In a case like this, there is little for the police to go on. They had very few clues and unlike some countries, they are not allowed to enter our homes uninvited to search for missing persons.
I am not so sure about prostitutes. It is a residential area and street. Possibly closer to one of the main streets and no doubt there are drug problems in the area as there are in every area of the country.
As for unusual dress and behavior, Have you ever been to a Wal-Mart? How about a local carnival or amusement park? People are generally slobs anymore. I actually see a lot of people walking around in their pajamas in public.
Even schools have "Pajamas Day" for the kids to come to class in them.
I agree. And if you’re not smart enough to trick, dig, guile or fight your way out, Darwin wins.
How could they be there 10yrs and know nothing? Something smells.
Probably just some Puerto Rican neighbor who was ashamed to see the PR flag there. That person probably wasn’t the one who had put up the American flag and therefore just simply left it there.
But why somebody would have put up an American flag at such a place, I don’t know.
There are certain areas where people call the police on every issue they can just to keep some police presence in the area ...more so then they are. The people know they live in an unsafe neighborhood.
Yes, I was questioning it too, think it was in an early report somewhere, or maybe my misinterpretation. But these guys are no angels either. Didn't their brother let them into his house? In ten years? I'll bet they knew.
