Further... it was stated not unusual to see prostitutes and others in unusual dress and behavior there....calls to police from this area was frequent on happenings or sitings of the unusual which came into the the police offices from this area.
I could see that. But even with neighbors less than ten feet from my house, I would know little of what happens in the house next door.
My one neighbor I see regularly and have only been in his house one time. He is divorced and lives with his daughter. We talk a few times a month and waive and say high a couple times a week.
The other neighbor on the other side I do not know at all except by sight. I knew the previous owners quite well as I had gone to school with one of her brothers and she was in my sisters class through high school. This guy is single and travels, or at least is gone regularly. I don’t even know his name and he has lived here for half a decade. If he was holding someone in that house, I would have no clue.
How many neighbors do people really know in this day of air conditioning, two income households and small one or two child families?
We have become much less interactive on a personal basis in the last several decades.
I am not so sure about prostitutes. It is a residential area and street. Possibly closer to one of the main streets and no doubt there are drug problems in the area as there are in every area of the country.
As for unusual dress and behavior, Have you ever been to a Wal-Mart? How about a local carnival or amusement park? People are generally slobs anymore. I actually see a lot of people walking around in their pajamas in public.
