I wasnt involved in the talking points process.... As I understand it, as Ive been told, it was a typical interagency process where staff, including from the State Department, all participated, to try to come up with whatever was going to be made publicly available, and it was an intelligence product.

This column has been updated
New information is raising questions about the development of the administrations talking points on the deadly attack on the diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, which left four Americans, including the ambassador, dead.
Readers may recall that The Fact Checker concluded that there was something rather odd about U.N. Ambassador Susan E. Rices comments on the Sunday news shows shortly after the attack. Rice said the attack began spontaneously because of a hateful video, and there was no indication it was premeditated or preplanned.
We awarded her Two Pinocchios the morning after she appeared on the shows, concluding that the publicly available evidence stands in stark contrast to Rices talking points.
The White House at the time sharply disputed that conclusion, but over time that column has held up rather well. (In an interview with congressional investigators that was released over the weekend, deputy chief of mission Gregory Hicks said my jaw hit the floor as I watched this.) Some readers have suggested we should boost the Pinocchio rating for Rices comments. Still, it is clear Rice was simply mouthing the words given to her. The bigger mystery now is who was involved in writing and rewriting the talking points.
The talking points have become important because, in the midst of President Obamas reelection campaign, for a number of days they helped focus the journalistic narrative on an anti-Islam video

“The talking points have become important because, in the midst of President Obamas reelection campaign, for a number of days they helped focus the journalistic narrative on an anti-Islam video”
This would be laughable if it wasn’t so pathetic. We were told to report on something that was not true so we did it.

Only people from Hillary’s party would believe that tripe. She’s hoping we’ll ignore the stark fact that she as the oh-so-vaunted “world’s smartest woman” and a cabinet-level Secretary owns the responsibility. And, what would she like us to believe she was doing at the time here department was ginning up the public response to terror attack that left four Americans dead?
Why did obama nominate Amb. Rice for Secretary of State after she told her lies? Payback for the lies she was willing to tell.
Hillary was involved in the whole thing, although I don’t think she came up with the plan herself, either the original decisions to ignore the attack on the consulate or the later plan to cover it up with these “talking points.”
Barry and his Muslim and radical leftist “advisers” were behind that, and he desperately wants this investigation to stop with Hillary.
He also wants it to stop with the “talking points” and not go into the hows and whys of the failure to respond to the attack and to save our people. If a few flunkies go down for the “talking points,” this is all going to be a waste of time.

We still have heard nothing from the people who were there. There is a good reason to keep the names of the CIA people secret...but not the State Dept people who survived. They know what the survivors did and saw..we need to hear from them. Did they think there was support nearby that was called off?
Even the CIA people should be questioned by Issa’s committee in secret to find out what the CIA was really doing there.
Question....Can Hillary,Petraeus and Panetta be recalled to testify even though they no longer hold jobs in the administration?
I really want to see every single WH staff involved that night questioned too...including Obama.
Yes
Did you see this? On the road and unable to post. Confirms much of what we already knew including the plane trip.
Hillary’s over the top indignant outburst at that hearing should have been the biggest clue to her guilt. Who reacts that way except people with too much to hide?
She tried to silence everyone that would dare question her with cheap feminist theatrics. Dead giveaway.
Wow...so hopefully we will find out tomorrow who exactly gave the stand down order and on what authority!!
Can’t wait!!
Not necessarily hanging on you for an answer on this. I just want to keep posting it in an open forum. Somebody might pick it up and run with it.
Where is Christopher Stevens’ autopsy report, and when will it be released?
The American people have a right to know what happened. No more secrecy for anyone. If our actions can not stand the light of day, they are wrong and we should not be doing those things. Real simple.
A lot of conservative women feel the same way as you:
“Hillarys over the top indignant outburst at that hearing should have been the biggest clue to her guilt. Who reacts that way except people with too much to hide?

It was so long ago, after all ......
Payback? I believe 0bama bribed Rice to lie for him in exchange for a promotion. That was her incentive for getting out there on 5 Sunday news shows and putting her insurance policy down on getting a big time job.

With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided to go kill some Americans? What difference at this point does it make?Hillary Clinton
