At the National Rifle Association's convention in Houston, TX, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre announced that the NRA has now grown to an unprecedented 5 million active members. He concluded his speech with the theme of all the NRA officers, vowing, From libertys defense, we will never back down. We will never surrender. We will always stand. We will always fight.
Well over 70,000 members of the NRA are assembled in Houston, Texas for its 142nd Annual Meetingprojected to break the all-time record for the nations oldest and largest Constitutional rights organization. The convention houses over 300,000 square feet of exhibits (mostly firearms and accessories), seminars on various topics including womens and childrens safety, and formal speeches from national political leaders and the NRAs leadership. The central focus on the annual conventionas alwaysis protecting the Constitutions Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
The speeches focused on the recent gun-control fight in Congress, where the national media and political pundits were shocked to see the NRA inflict a crushing defeat to a newly-reelected President Barack Obama, who put his political capital and all the weight of the White House behind gun-control legislation.
Outgoing NRA President David Keene gave his valedictory address, noting the challenges of responding to recent tragedies: Weve all been under attack by those who would exploit the victims of a madman to advance their own anti-Second Amendment agenda.
Keene then exulted in the fact that despite incredible money from leftists and a mainstream media that opposes gun rights, that nonetheless over 58,000 Americans joined the NRA in one day after Obama gave his initial gun-control speech....

Yeah but, Michael Moore sez that 90% of the people are against the 2nd amendment and that we all want more gun control laws!
I think maybe Mikey doesn’t know what a big word like “Percent” means. He meant to say that there are 90 people in the US that want more gun control laws...all of them politicians would be my guess.
And > 72 mill BC’s since the Ø
That and I voted against that Zumbo ex-TX Ranger fraud on their board.
And even better, how many in the US military are also NRA members?
Anyway, I wish there were 50 million NRA members.
“The NRA has 3 times more armed soliders than the entire US military.”
Ad I would say a chunk of those 5 million either came from the military or are still in it.
There’s also a smaller, but by no means insignificant demographic who will not join the NRA or have let their memberships lapse because they feel the NRA is not adequately pro-2nd Amendment...
True Grit, Life-member.
I was once a member. I will join again when they admit giving Harry Reid a “B” rating was the worst mistake they ever made. I do use the old NRA sticker on my truck as an early warning for would be burglars.
“Anti-Bill-Of-Rights”
That’s the brush with which to paint 2nd Amendment opponents.
I hadn’t been a member for 40 years, but I am now.
Magnum44 - Life/Benefactor Member.
Active NRA instructor in rifle/pistol/shotgun/PPITH/PPOTH/reloading cartridge and shotgun shell/RSO/CRSO
Pround father of daughter who just got junior instructor rated in shotgun.
I've been a member since the late 60's while the NRA is far from perfect, it's the biggest and best organization that is dedicated to me owning and carrying my own weapons.
Like all large organizations, they have many putzes acting as real men, but the NRA is our last chance against the commie bastards that want your guns.
Remember, in 1933, the banning of civilians owning guns was believed to be very good for the average German Jew.
Most liberal American non-thinking, non-practicing Jews seem to have no recollection of those days, nor the results.
DO you know where to find the election results? I’ve searched and can’t find a thing....
I voted against him, too.
I’ve never owned a firearm of any kind, and it has been over twenty years since I last fired one (military requirement), but a couple of months ago I joined the NRA when I heard how their numbers surged when congress started pushing for further infringing on our rights. It was the least that I could do.
My current (but hopefully temporary) residence precludes firearm ownership in a second amendment sense, but when I return to the U.S. I want to be sure that my rights will still be preserved should I decide to do so.
And less than 5% of American gun owners are members of the NRA.
I think 'a rifle behind every blade of grass' was a real lowball estimate.
I am going to start buying gifts through the NRA store. Want to channel as much of my $ to Pro2A causes as possible.
