It is understandable that a lot of people were relieved when the government was quickly able to identify and locate the perpetrators of the Boston Marathon bombings. And it is also understandable why some people might want to treat the surviving attacker as an enemy combatant, given his ostensible beliefs in and potential ties to militant Islam. But that doesnt make any of it right or just or permissible under our Constitution. Its been said that the first casualty in war is the truth. And its also been said that sometimes the truth can be inconvenient. But there are a couple of inconvenient truths that we need to understand and accept as we try to come to terms with the events that took place in Boston regardless of whether you believe the bombings were an act of war. Make no mistake: The senseless deaths and injuries that occurred in Boston are without explanation or justification. And everyone responsible needs to be brought to justice and punished appropriately. But the notion that we can or should treat an American citizen, acting on American soil, as an enemy combatant and deny them the rights and privileges guaranteed under the Constitution should be feared as much or more than any individual act of violence.
Coincidental, I think NOT!
I agree with the article. The same well intentioned outrage after the original 9-11 gave us the DHS which is being used against American citizens now that it is in the hands of the extremist anti-American Obama administration. Setting a bad precedent here because of the outrage over the heinious nature of the crime would, again, come back to bite us on the butt.
The government shut down the city and searched house to house for these guys. Where were the constitutional protections for the general citizenry then? The capture was not a law enforcement operation, it was a military assault. These guys should be water boarded and when we’re done with them send ‘em back to there home town in pieces. Wrapped in bacon.
Curious that, suddenly, individual rights are important to collectivists. Even more curious is that the denial of Newtown citizens of their First Amendment rights to peacefully assemble, in and out of their homes, is not regarded as worthy of comment.
Never mind my previous about not mentioning the lockdown.
The govrnment “found” the bombers?
Where were all the Keystone Kops that did’t notice the big dufus pushing-around a baby stroller?
Where’s the hotlink?

I almost hate to get started on this, it is just so wrong in so many ways.
The Federal government is responsible for this.
The bombers should have never been allowed to do what they did if the Federal Government was following the laws and regulations that have been set up by our Congress and even signed by The President.
The Russian and Saudi governments on more than one occasions tried to warn us of these two brothers and their likely terrorist activities. The Federal Government did nothing. No, let me take that back, the Federal Government housed and fed these scum Islamists while they planned their death and destruction.
It isn't just the Federal Government I have to say bad things about. The Federal government has helped many more potential terrorists than these two scum. I expect we will unfortunately hear more from the Islamist that have slithered into our country. The State and local governments stripped the citizens of their citizenship rights for a day while they searched for these two criminals. It was sickening to see the cops yelling at innocent people to leave their homes and run to a check point.
We have abandoned the Constitution in this country. We have abandoned the rule of law. It is sad.
We do have a constitution, that constitution does grant these criminals certain rights. I would rather these slime balls get their rights and then be executed than have them quickly punished and have the Constitution ignored. The Constitution will protect none of us if it doesn't protect all of us.
