Massachusetts Rep. Edward J. Markey won the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State John Kerrys old Senate seat Tuesday, advancing to summer special election campaign against Republican Gabriel Gomez which the Democrat will be heavily favored to win.
With 60 percent of precincts reporting, the Associated Press called the race for Markey, who led Rep. Stephen F. Lynch 57 percent to 43 percent.
Three years after Massachusetts Democrats nominated Attorney General Martha Coakley, a flawed candidate who was upset by Republican Scott Brown in the race for late Sen. Ted Kennedys seat, Democratic leaders sought to clear the field early for Markey, the liberal dean of the states congressional delegation. Both Kerry and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee backed him from day one.

Jack Robinson is so liberal it was painful to listen to him. big gay marriage guy.
thanks. Go Lynch
Weird that some people saw him as the "grassroots conservative" choice. I guess by Massachusetts standards he's conservative, but Gomez' positions are to the left of both Scott Brown and Michael Sullivan.
I didn't know Jack E. Robinson is a big gay marriage guy now. He probably "evolved" on the issue as well, I remember when he ran against Ted Kennedy about 10 years ago, and he sounded fairly decent back then ("whatever Ted Kennedy is for, I'm against")
I'd probably still cast a protest vote, if there's anyone at least semi-decent on the ballot against Markey and Gomez.
Polls show Brown could have won, he lead Markey. Wussed out? But talks of running in NH? Bizarre. Despite being a more Republican state by a mile I’d surely say he has much less of a chance carpetbagging there and winning.
So Winslow, the state Rep., he was the most conservative? I didn’t even bother to look into him. I didn’t figure there were any in the General Court.
Jack E. seems like a bigger d-bag than Gomez, if I were to support a d-bag it would be the one who would get 40% rather than one that will get 1%, there is also a Libertarian on the ballot, Fishman, I think he’s run before.
And Lynch can go, to hell. Is he gonna challenge Markey in the primary for the full term next year?
Who cares...Mass is a useless state full of useless morons.
Right, anyone that uses the term “settled law” shouldn’t be making laws.
No law is settled.
Meant to ping you to #24.
Gomez got 51%, Sullivan 36%, and Winslow 13%.
On the Jackass side, Malarkey beat Lynch 57.4% to 42.6%.

I voted for Sullivan in the primary. I thought about voting for Winslow, but he, like Gomez, had a history of contributing to Donks. Plus, he looked like the last-place guy going in, so it seemed wiser to back Sullivan.
I'll be voting for Gomez in the general, even if it means Malarkey will still be my Congresscritter if Gomez wins (not likely). On the optimistic side, maybe Malarkey will retire out of depression if he loses.
Is there someone from the Constitution Party running?
