Russian President Vladimir Putin opposes gun sales for self defense, UPI reported yesterday. "I do not support the idea of free arms distribution in Russia," the report quotes from comments the federation head of state made to a Russian television station. "It is dangerous to artificially stimulate this process."
Putins remarks were in response to a shooting in Belogrod on Monday by a convicted criminal who allegedly stole his gamekeeper fathers rifle and opened fire outside a hunting store that had refused to sell him ammunition, killing six people, including two girls.
That was done in spite of Russias gun laws, categorized as restrictive by GunPolicy.org, a project of the Sydney School of Public Health administered by leading proponents of international gun control. In fact, Russia already has in place a wish list of what such advocates represent as commonsense gun safety measures, including a ban on ownership of handguns, an assault weapons ban, licensing and registration for sporting arms (with required requalification renewals every five years), bans on concealed and open carry (except for limited sporting purposes activities), mandatory background/medical/mental health checks, mandatory training, and the like, with severe penalties for gun possession violations.
Despite those restrictions, Russias homicide rate in 2009, the last year GunPolicy.org presented comparable statistics, was 15.1 per 100,000 people (per The Atlantic, the highest murder rate in Europe), compared to 5.48 in the United States, and its total suicide rate was listed at 36.14 for 1998, again the last year presented. By comparison, the U.S. rate was less than a third of that

"What is the right to life, ingrained in our constitution, if you don't have the right to bear arms? the gun groups founder, Maria Butina asked. If a person wishes to defend himself, he has no means for protection."

Russia has had far more than its share of tyranny in the past 100 years. The State has never recognized a widespread right ot arms in Russia.
Of course he does; he’s a communist tyrant.
Are we talking about Putin or our occupier of the White House?
Color me stunned.A filthy Communist thug who once headed up the KGB wanting the great unwashed to be unarmed? Who wouldda thunk it!
Yet there doesn’t appear to be any shortage of guns in Russia.
As this article on the street thugs of Papua New Guinea points out. Even where you can effectively remove the guns, homemade guns appear along with the machetes and axes.

Different country. Different Constitution.
I remember recently reading on FR a Pravda editorial telling America not to lose our gun rights. Now here is Pootie recommending we ditch them.
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin
In fact Russia has more gun freedom than 90% other nations in the world. For that reason their civilian population is in top ten of most armed. In South Russia with their moslem problem there are tons of fully auto rifles in private possession and authorities are blind about it.
Their laws are specifically restrictive to handguns and that is all.
Also homicide statistics is not correct. It is probably taken from police books but you can’t compare different nations this way. For example in Russia they count all missing women, children, motorists and public officials as murders. Here comes about 15% of all unnatural deaths.
The reality is you can walk in their cities at night with little to none chance of getting robbed, let alone killed.
An unarmed person is subject to the State for protection. The State may or may not decide he deserves protection.
Yes
Good answer...
It's rough out there!
>>>The reality is you can walk in their cities at night with little to none chance of getting robbed, let alone killed.
I have a friend who was a doctor in Russia. You might get killed walking the street at night but it is just as likely to be listed as a death from cancer or old age at 30. She says they used to get death certificates with a cause of death already listed and they had to match them to patients as best they could.<<<
I’m a bit familiar with their legal system. I know what she is talking about but it has nothing to do with potential crime-related deaths. It is mostly about to manipulate health statistics if they had a plan to lower heart deaths doctors are stimulated to list such deaths as cancer or something.
Anyone who died in a street goes straight to autopsy there, so does any dead body with any wound, even if it is just a scratch. It is prohibited to cremate such bodies so it is possible to get a court order to reconsider a case in any moment.
In short, Russian homicide statistics is inflated. I’m not talking there is no homicide at all, a number of people are getting killed but not near as many as you can think.
Also 90% of their homicides are results of drank family disputes. A chance to get shot or stabbed in the street is little to none. As soon as you aren’t about to get drank and start a fight with your spouse you are safe enough there.
Whatever LOL
